Mistletoexplosion

"Molly! There's another letter from Hogwarts here!" shouted Arthur.

As expected, Professor McGonagall had written again concerning Fred and George. Apparently they had got themselves into a spot of trouble pulling a prank at the traditional Christmas breakfast in the Great Hall. Molly sighed. What was she going to do with her boys!? This was the seventh time this year, and it wasn't as if the school didn't have enough trouble at the moment. Someone had set some monster loose at Hogwarts, and her babies were there. No answer could present itself before another letter dropped right onto her head. The owl who delivered it seemed to be in a rush. She startled when a mass of green mistletoe jumped from the envelope as she opened it.

Dear Mum,

We're sure you've probably heard from Professor McGonagall by now concerning our little Christmas prank. We feel that we should defend ourselves on this matter and beg you not to punish us further. You see, Professor McGonagall already gave us three months of detentions (which we know we deserve), but we were really only trying to bring a little Christmas cheer and merriment during these dark, troubling times. We didn't do anything dangerous. We are unsure how much the Professor will have told you in her letter (which she informed us she would be writing, so if she didn't and we have just snitched on ourselves...) It was a very simple spell really, we only minimized a gob of mistletoe into a firework and set it off. We actually saved the staff some time because now they won't have to hang any. Of course, they have insisted on taking ours down anyway because of the little charm we placed on each sprig, but it's harmless. We have sent you a sample so that you will believe us.

Molly really didn't like the sound of this mistletoe. She held it out in front of her, far away from her person, carefully inspecting it. It was glowing, but it didn't seem dangerous. She ran her wand over it, checking the enchantments., but none of the usual dangers were alerted, so Molly dangled it above her head, smiling. She looked around. It surely couldn't hurt to hang the little sprig in the kitchen. 'Tis the season. She cast a permanent hover charm to make it hang just over the entryway. She smiled at it, and then went back to the letter.

Just because Professor Snape got his knickers in a twist...

What could possibly be the grouch's problem this time? She didn't see any harm in a little enchanted mistletoe. So it glows. He was always bothering her babies. She frowned.

She was still standing beneath the mistletoe, thinking about her babies as Arthur came in. He hadn't even seen it, of that she was sure, but he stopped. They locked into an intensely passionate snog. Soon the compulsion ended. They both looked confusedly at one another and then at the mistletoe. "I think I know what Fred and George charmed it with now," Molly said aloud. She showed Arthur the letter, smiling.

If anyone could use a good snog it's that slimy git ...er...sorry. We could hardly have predicted that he would be talking with Draco Malfoy at the time of the mistletoe explosion now could we?

With much love mum, and give ours to Dad as well,

Fred and George

Both parents gave each other horrified looks before another owl dropped a bright red envelope on Molly's lap. A howler...from Draco's mum.
