Moonlit Path
There were three paths. There had always been — would always be — three paths.
The path of light, bathed in sunlight, golden and majestic.
The path of shadow, whether for dawn or dusk irrelevant to all but the walker.
The path of darkness, lit by the moon (if it was lit at all), pale and sublime.
Kairi walked the path of light. Her bright eyes and brighter smiles both drew and banished the darkness.
Riku walked the path of shadow. His haunted eyes and hidden smirks carried him away from the darkness and towards the dawn.
Did that mean that Sora walked the path of darkness?
No, said the people of Radiant Garden, Sora isn't dark! He reclaimed our name and our home, he is surely of the light!
No, said the people of Twilight Town, Sora isn't dark! He fought against the Heartless and the Nobodies, he is surely of the light!
No, said the people of Disney Castle, Sora isn't dark! He saved the galaxy twice, he is surely of the light!
No, said the people everywhere, Sora isn't dark! And they piled on reasons and beliefs and thoughts.
But there were only three paths, and Sora didn't walk Kairi's.
Sora walked the path of darkness, holding his light close and spreading it to others through his friendly eyes and friendlier grins, walking ever deeper into the darkness and leaving behind sunlight and dawn.
Because Sora was the moonlight, shining on the lonely path.
