Chapter One

'How did it all come to this?' that was her only thought as fell to her knees a gun pointed at her by a man in a bowler hat. If only she didn't take the job. If only she didn't fall in love, no she didn't regret those choices after all it was the best time in her fucked up life that she felt needed and loved. Yet here she was unable to do anything so she closed her eyes and waited for the cold embrace of death.

It was another day normal day for Ruby, well as normal as it can be when you're a mercenary but a normal day none the less. She just finished her latest job which involved getting rid of some scum that thought it a good idea to go against her client. What they did or were going to do it didn't matter as long as she got payed.

"So the problem is taken care of?" Her client Weiss Schnee asked looking up from the paperwork she had on her desk.

"You know it is now where is my money?" Ruby looked around the office as if trying to find the cash.

"I already forwarded it to your account."

"Good it's been a… pleasure doing buisness with you again."

"Likewise, oh and stay in touch I will have another job for you soon." With a dismissive wave of her hand Weiss went back to her work. Ruby turned and left without another word leaving the office building and making her trek to her car parked a few blocks away. Her car wasn't a fancy one but it did the job of getting her around it was one of those cheap four door cars that unlike others hers could probably stand a bomb going off right next to it and have barely a scratch.

As soon as she got in the car she found a knife pressed to her throat from behind. "Well well well look what the cat dragged in" Ruby said knowing who it was.

"That doesn't get old at all" Blake said her voice dripping with sarcasm. Blake was a cat faunes who just happened to be one of the best assassins in the world but none truly knew what she looked like well none except Ruby and a few others.

"What are you doing here, and could you put the knife away?" Ruby asked annoyed, she just wanted to get home and relax but apparently life had other plans.

"I'm here to give you a warning, there are those who think it's time you are taken care of and have already hired some for the job."

"Thanks but I believe I can handle myself. It wouldn't be the first time someone's tried to kill me"

"These people are different they're trained"

"The others were trained too" Ruby sighed.

"These people come from that 'place'" This made Ruby freeze. Faster than the eye could follow she drew a pistol and had it pressed against Blake's temple.

"Talk. Now."

"It's not just you there after it's all of us, all first generations" Blake exclaimed unfazed by firearm.

"How? I thought they discontinued the program after our escape" Ruby questioned calming down slightly.

"It seems that project Beacon has been reformed"

"Call the others we meet at my place in two days, now get out" Ruby commanded and Blake got out of the car without a second thought.

Ruby opened her phone and called the only person in the contacts. "Hello… Weiss meet at my place in two days tell no one… it's about project beacon… okay see you in two days." Ruby hung up the phone. It was going to be a 'fun' few days.
