I'll jump for you.
He was perched upon the ledge on the roof, looking down at the scene below. Would anyone miss me?
He scanned the streets. A crowd was forming, staring at the dark silhouette against the evening sky. He contemplated his options.
He never heard the footsteps coming up behind him.
"Don't jump. Please." A voice reached his ears. It was pleading.
"Why not?" He replied back nonchalantly.
"Give me five minutes to explain."
"Why should I?" He didn't want to turn around to see that face.
"I'll tell you if you let me."
"Fine. Shoot."
He never expected a melodic voice, carried by the wind, to touch his heart.
"On top of the roof,
The air is so cold and so calm.
I say your name in silence,
You don't wanna hear it right now.
The eyes of the city,
Are counting the tears falling down.
Each one a promise,
Of everything you never found…"
It hurt. Damn, it hurt. It hurt for both of them.
"I scream into the night for you,
Don't make it true,
Don't jump.
The lights will not guide you through,
They're deceiving you,
Don't jump.
Don't let memories go,
Of me and you,
The world is down there out of view.
Please don't jump…"
He fought the urge to turn around and step down from the ledge. It's just a tactic to stop you from jumping, nothing more.
But the voice continued on.
"You open your eyes,
But you can't remember what for.
The snow falls quietly,
You just can't feel it no more.
Somewhere out there,
You lost yourself in your pain.
You dream of the end,
To start all over again…"
The voice was closer now, beside him instead of behind. He felt a presence step onto the ledge with him, looking down upon the world with him.
"I scream into the night for you,
Don't make it true,
Don't jump.
The lights will not guide you through,
They're deceiving you,
Don't jump.
Don't let memories go,
Of me and you,
The world is down there out of view.
Please don't jump,
Don't jump…"
The memories flooded back, of the times they had. The fun, the frustrating, the pain, the gut wrenching pain, the love.
The love.
"I don't know how long,
I can hold you so strong,
I don't know how long.
Just take my hand,
Give it a chance,
Don't jump…"
He felt the brush of a hand against his own, and he gave in to temptation, taking it in his own. His will was dissipating, the urge to turn back even stronger. It's a trick, it's just a trick.
"I scream into the night for you,
Don't make it true,
Don't jump.
The lights will not guide you through,
They're deceiving you,
Don't jump.
Don't let memories go,
Of me and you,
The world is down there out of view.
Please don't jump,
Don't jump…"
He saw, out of the corner of his eye, the figure turn to look at him.
"And if all that can't hold you back…"
He finally found the courage to turn his head to stare into eyes so like his own. He heard the last line, whispered quietly so only he could hear it.
"Then I'll jump for you."
He stepped down from the ledge, pulling the other's hand with him.
"Have I convinced you?"
"Yes. Yes, Draco, you have."
He enveloped the other into a careful hug.
"I meant what I said, Harry."
The other figure hugged back.
"What?"
"I'll jump for you."
A pause. Then two mumbled words against his shoulder.
"Always. Forever."
