They always wondered what it would be like. They were symmetrical after all. They liked the same things, they often did the same things, sometimes they even dressed the same way. It confused people. They couldn't decide what to do. So he took things into his own hands, he dyed his hair. Now, people could tell them apart, but was it a good thing, he often wondered. He also wondered if he loved her. The other worried that soon his brother would no longer love him the most, and he hated that. He despised the fact that he might lose his brother. He was petty, of that he was sure. He never showed it though. He had always been good at keeping his emotions locked up. His brother was overly emotional, his emotions written on his face. That's where they differed as well: they reacted differently some of the time. At first, they used to be close, but now, now with him not realizing his feelings for her, it made it all the more difficult for the two of them. There was now competition. He wasn't sure still. Sometimes he felt like giving up, but he couldn't, not after what his brother sacrificed for him: which was a lot. He had given up his love for her, for him. He was the mature one. People still called him a child. It was the eve of their birthday that he made up his mind. He wanted his brother to be his first, and since they did everything together, even put on that show, he figured it couldn't hurt. Not in the least. He looked at his brother's face, pale, relaxed, in the moonlight. His hand brushed his brother's shoulder and woke him. The younger looked up, blearily, through his eyes, questioning. And the elder leaned down and brushed his lips ever so softly against his brothers.
"Happy birthday, Kaoru," he whispered.
"Happy birthday, Hikaru," his twin replied.
