Walking down the hospital corridor, Jac was interrupted by Daisha joining her, along with her crying newborn. The infant's cries pierced the registrar's head until she could not stand it anymore. So she placed her crutch on the floor and got the nurse to hand over her nameless son. He quietened up, to the surprise of both women. She muttered 'Huh' to herself – with everyone in the hospital repeatedly calling her cold-hearted, Jac had expected to pick up on whatever 'vibes' she sent out. The sight of him nestled into her made her heart twist and as a result she begun to chatter to him in a stream of baby-talk, beginning with E.T.

Hugging the baby close to her gave Jac a moment of peace and quiet on the normally busy CT ward, and she allowed her mind to wander. If Jac had ever pictured herself holding a baby, it had been a long time ago, and had always been Joseph's. In her ideal world, it would have been Joseph standing next to her and looking over her shoulder at their child. But she had completely ruined any chance of that by sleeping with his father. Now, she regretted that one choice more than all of her other mistakes put together. She was only bitchy and catty towards everybody because it meant she did not have to open up, or admit she made mistakes. It ensured nobody thought she was weak, with the added effect that they thought she was completely devoid of emotions and feelings. The baby in her arms disproved that, creating a maternal urge within her to protect him. Joseph had delivered this baby, and his was as close to him as she would ever get again.

As Joseph entered the CT ward, his thoughts turned to Daisha's baby. It he stayed with Faye as he planned to, that baby was realistically the closest he would ever be able to get to being a father. He peered down the corridor before stepping out, and saw Jac with the baby. In that moment, he nearly changed his mind about her. It appeared that the one rival to Connie Beauchamp's 'Ice-Queen' title did have a heart. He almost fell over a nurse's trolley, hardly able to take his eyes off his old flame. The look in her eyes reminded him of what he used to see in her, love in her. Her loving and caring side had made Joseph Byrne feel whole, as he now almost felt with Faye. But Jac Naylor had shattered that path by sleeping with his father. Not that he would ever go back to loving her. He tore his eyes away and went about the ward to see his patients, leaving that dangerous thought trail behind.

With no name for Daisha's baby, Jac stepped in. This was one way to be close to Joseph without clearly displaying her emotions. She knew he would be happy at Baby Joe's name, and she herself was happy with the knowledge that she had once more made Joseph happy.

Ok, again, for an old fic, I like it =) But then again, it's Jac&&Joseph, and they=fave pairing now Maddy is gone.

Please review, I'm one of those sad people who grin madly when I get one =D
