A/N Draws loosely into my other story 'More than Friends'
Neo shivered lightly as a snowflake glazed over her pale nose.
'Snow..' She thought angrily. She never had liked the icy particles that much, despite the fact her favorite sugary treat was in fact flavored ice. But that was different. You could enjoy Ice Cream and all its wonderful flavours at any giving time.
Snow however… Was flavourless cold hell that reigned its terror across the streets for a day or so. Forcing its victims to bundle up and generally stay inside to maintain some degree of warmth. All except her hyperactive girlfriend. Ruby.
Ruby was filled with surprises. A little fact that Neo could never seem to grasp. Just when she thought she had the cookie huntress figured out, Ruby does something that breaks the meta. Destroying Neo's ability to understand Ruby's mindset.
"It's Snowing! It's Snowing! It's snowing!" Ruby sung as she zipped around the empty park in a stream of roses. Neo understood her semblance was speed, and to never get her any form of caffeine. But she had to question, How is she not cold?
"Neo!" Ruby yelled, a bit too close to Neo's ear for comfort, causing the smaller girl to jump in a silent scream.
Ruby smiled widened as she watched her girlfriend catch her breath. "Are you cold?" Ruby asked with a small tilt of the head.
Neo had to admit, whenever Ruby did that she looked adorable. Like a curious puppy. Neo nodded shakily, empathise the fact she was indeed cold.
"Awww" Ruby said as she grasped the smaller girl into a tight embrace. "'m sorry. I didn't know you'd be so cold." Neo didn't bother with a reply. She was too busy enjoying the new warmth invading her cold frame.
"Wanna go back home and warm up?~" Ruby sung as she buried her nose in the multi-colored hair. Neo nodded and released her heat source. Feeling the fresh cold again made her regret letting Ruby go, but now that they were heading home, it promised more warmth.
After a short walk through the unforgiven weather. The duo found themselves back in Neo's apartment. As quickly as she entered, Neo was on the couch and under a double layered blanket in a moments notice. Ruby blinked repeatedly.
With a short smile, Neo removed the blanket and padded an open spot next to her. As quick as Neo, but probably faster, Neo was in Ruby's arms with the latter resting her head in colorful hair.
"Hey Neo?~" Ruby purred from her nest in the different color hair. "Can I stay the night and stay like this. I don't have classes tomorrow" Neo's face shifted from comfort to utter confusion.
'Does she even have to ask?!' Her inner voice screamed. But all she did was a simple nod as she wrapped her arms around the pair that held her in place.
"Good.." Ruby sighed in comfort as she drifted into a blissful sleep.
Neo, however, couldn't sleep. It wasn't everyday she could enjoy the comfort and warmth that Ruby provided. She never really had someone to call her own. Someone who would comfort her and be at her side when she needed it most. Her time as an hidden thief, employed under Roman Torchwick left little to no room for any companions that didn't have a record. Not that she wanted to be with anyone that she worked with.
She kept wondering how did she get this lucky, to have someone as innocent and caring as Ruby to fall for someone like her.
Someone who stole for a living.
Someone who hurt others for personal gain.
Someone who was deemed a freak because of her different eyes and hair.
Someone who unable to even speak a word.
Ruby saw past all of those things. Even after confessing what she did and who she was, Ruby ignored every word and just held her for what felt like hours. Neo felt her eyes draw heavy as the warm embrace began to overcome her senses.
Ruby was her only warmth she needed in an otherwise cold world.
