Wish You'd Stay Away

By tami

You left when I was sixteen.

I begged you not to go.

The allure of adventure,

To succeed where our father failed,

Overpowered any loyalty you had left.

The masamune had always been an evil omen.

Arrogant fool you were,

You thought you could conquer a legend.

The steel drank the blood of thousands before,

And then hungered for centuries.

How ignorant you were to think

It wouldn't quell its thirst on you after starvation.

The hex did not find your cockiness amusing.

It fell upon your head,

Hit you hard.

Pride stumbled and fell.

Riddel wept, Karsh became a silent lunatic.

Even now we keep daily vigil at your grave.

I despised the way you scorned my warnings,

Brushed them away as the whining of someone

Who was too young to yet understand.

The glitter of a holy grail you could not resist,

Forgetting that sacred relics are not meant

To be tampered with by mortal men.

The faithfulness that you had forgotten

Was possessed by Karsh and bade him to follow you

Even though you near dragged him into the gates of death

You yourself went through.

My heart hardened when you laughed at my pleas

When you mocked my sincerity,

My wish for you to stay alive.

And I resented you for making those who were left behind,

The only ones left to give me the attention you never did,

Suffer such intense anguish that I could not feel.

I pitied them.

Yet I wondered,

Who was left to pity me?

Later on,

It was remembered

That when a sun falls

All it means is that the moon must rise.

I began to accomplish

All that you did and more.

Like it is said,

The sapling's growth will be stunted

By the shadow of a towering parent tree.

When the overcast is removed,

The reserve can begin to gain glory.

My name was never "Dario's little brother."

It's Glenn.

And now there is not a man or women in Termina

That doesn't smile at the mention of their champion

Karsh does what you could never do.

He took your place,

Only you no longer had one after you abandoned your kin.

He guided me and beamed at my progress,

Very different from your worries

Of me surpassing your own skill

Soon Riddel will open her eyes and see the light,

And clasp hands and exchange vows with the one

That had always been worthier than you,

The one that was considerate enough to stand aside

And let you claim the prize.

The sun has fallen,

The moon is rising,

And there is not a soul that regrets the change.

For the love of God Dario, don't come back,

We wish you'd stay away.

Well, what do you think? I needed to practice writing poems, so I decided that a rather ironic twist on Glenn's POV on his brother's death would be interesting to write. I don't really think that's what happened, but I've got a brother and when they don't listen to you even though you've got their best interests in mind, it can be very frustrating. R&R, and be very honest since I need help for improvement when it comes to direct POV poems. (Translation: Flames, but not the ones that just say "it sucks" and don't give a supporting reason or helpful hints of improvement, are welcome.)
