Almost

Summary: He almost ignored her when he first met her. He almost shooed her away when she asked for lessons that first time. He almost got the amulet for himself. He almost lost her… Thankfully, some things will forever remain an "almost."

Disclaimer: I do not own Sofia the First.

A/N: I'm in a writing mood today, and there's basically a series of stories I'm working to release together, or at least as closely together as possible. So you may actually see another story or two from me. Depends on how my writing schedule pans out. I'll definitely be busy this weekend with writing though! :) Not much to say about this one, except it's a bit more of Cedric's ponderings, but told from the third person POV this time. Enjoy! (PS: When you type a word over and over again, it starts looking/sounding weird. "Almost" is one of those words. Our language is strange. Lol. Anyway, ignore my ramblings. Haha.)

*Story*

He watched her closely as she danced with her brother and sister at a party their family was hosting. She seemed full of life now, as opposed to the other night when she'd been so distraught. He never really thought about how much joy she brought to others…to him. If he'd crushed that joy, he didn't know what he'd do. She didn't deserve it.

He couldn't believe the last few days. They seemed like a blur—almost as if they'd been a dream. But they hadn't. He had his faithful raven to attest to that. How they'd almost taken over the kingdom… How they'd almost been imprisoned for life…

The sound of her laughter cut into his thoughts and he nodded as she waved at him from the courtyard. He took a moment to wave back. He preferred to stand back at a distance and observe rather than truly interact with others, and she knew and obviously respected that.

A swell of warm wind danced across the kingdom, giving him a sense of much-needed peace. In truth, he wasn't upset that she'd found out the truth. It had been eating away at him the last few years that he'd known her. It wasn't healthy, and it certainly hadn't benefited their friendship. The mere fact that he'd almost destroyed that altogether? If she hadn't stepped in like she always did and helped him out?

Brown eyes locked with blue momentarily, and they exchanged knowing glances. Her smile didn't falter even when he sighed. It was infectious. He smiled back.

Maybe he wasn't perfect, and maybe he had a good ways to go in terms of building up a level of trust with the others now, but he had a feeling that with the princess's help, he was almost there.

The end
