Chapter One updated as of 24/05/19
Still short, I know, but had to get it started somehow and I honestly didn't want to lose what I had already written.
Even if I had written it when I was like thirteen. Anyways, hope whoever of you that are reading this now enjoy it.
"Alex, Yui, wake up," their mother demanded as she tore open the curtains. The twins groaned.
"It's too early..." Alex muttered, burying his head into his duvet.
"Too bright..." Yui whispered, putting her pillow over her head. Her mother reached down and grabbed a handful of Yui's long, snow white hair and yanked her from the bed. Yui landed on the wooden floor with a pained whimper.
"When I say it's time to get up, you get up!" her mother screeched. After throwing her daughter to the ground, the twin's mother turned to face her beloved son and gently shook his shoulder."Alex, sweetie. It's time to get up. You have school today."
Alex slowly rose into a sitting position, crossing his legs. His mother smiled sweetly at him, batting her fake eyelashes. He didn't understand how she didn't get annoyed with them, the way they brushed her thin eyebrows would have driven him insane.
"Will you come with me for another job today? Please?" Alex didn't answer and simply walked to his wardrobe- he didn't need to. She asked only out of sheer courtesy. If he said no, Yui would get yet another beating. His mother clapped her hands delightedly.
"Great!" she squealed. "I'll collect you from school this evening. Don't forget to bring your outfit!"
When their mother had clicked from the room in her sky-high heels, Yui pulled herself to her feet with the leg of her bed.
"You ok, Yu?" Yui nodded, smiling at him.
"Just a little blood, the usual." She covered her nose with her hand, to help prevent blood dripping on the floor as she made her way to the bathroom. Alex quickly got dressed before he went to check on her. Yui had cleaned the blood from her face and neck and was currently putting foundation over the black eye and cut she had gotten last night because Alex hadn't eaten his dinner.
Alex sighed and began to pack his "outfit" into a rucksack while Yui hurried to get changed. It was a black, long-sleeved, dress shirt, worn, ripped and baggy jeans, his white beanie (which he wore every day anyway) and black dress shoes was the so-called "outfit" his mother always had him wear whenever he met her clients.
Yui knotted his red school tie as perfectly as she could at the base of his throat- she knew he'd undo it but it was just until they got out of the house. Mother was meticulous about appearances. While Alex busied himself with his earrings and cleaning the snake-bites under his lip, Yui pulled on her navy tights and slipped her feet into her navy pumps.
In the kitchen, Yui got her brother's breakfast ready as the kettle boiled. As he munched on his cornflakes and drank his orange juice, she made herself a cup of tea and sat down across from sat in silence. Neither dared say a word to one another. When Alex was finished, Yui tied her hair in a ponytail, collected his ware and washed it.
Alex busied himself with sorting out their lunch money. Their mother had left him twenty dollars on the breakfast counter like she always did. That meant fifteen for him and five for Yui, who usually brought lunch from home. He stuffed his money in his pocket and gave Yui hers. She pecked him on the cheek as thanks. He was risking a lot giving her any of the money and she was grateful for every penny.
She glanced at the clock.
"Let's go. We'll be late otherwise," she said, grabbing her bag as she headed for the door. Alex nodded, before doing the same.
"Goodbye, Mother!" he called the round studs in his eyebrow glinting in the bright sunlight that shone on his face. His mother raced down the stairs towards him and planted a big, sloppy smooch on the cheek, leaving a big red lipstick mark.
"Goodbye, Sweetheart! Have a great day! Oh, and don't forget I'm collecting you after school!"
