To the Dark --

The whole world seemed to spin around in a mix of shapes and colors, breaking all the laws of nature and gravity it had been following since the beginning of eternity. I shook my head, but it refused to go away. I felt like slipping into the darkness that clawed from the back of my mind, fighting to take away my senses.

But my assailant would not allow that. I felt hot water splash against me, and I clenched my eyes shut to keep it away. When I opened them again, my vision was even more blurred and distorted than before. My heart was pounding loudly, trying to burst from my chest and escape from this hell.

Something warm trickled down my neck. It was thick and sticky, and the scent was thick in my nostrils. I wanted to pull away but I was held in place by two strong arms. I wanted to cry out for help, but I knew it was futile. Everyone I had ever cared about had betrayed me and left me here, soaked in this agony.

My head slumped as I tried desperately to ignore the pounding in my head and chest, and the needle-like blows landing on what felt like every part of me. More warm, sticky fluid flowed down my body, some of it dripping to the floor to pool at my feet. Why, I wondered, wouldn't they just kill me now? The torture was useless at this point. I was beyond the capacity of talking, let alone doing any sort of physical or mental act. I suppose they enjoyed it. Watching me fighting to slip away while they fought to keep me alive so they could inflict more punishment.

But I wouldn't let them win. Not this time. Today, I was going to have it my way, whether or not they liked it. With a short, difficult breath, I slipped my eyes shut, ignoring the attempts to jolt me awake. Eventually they would realize it was no use, and I would suffer no more.

If I had been able, I would have smiled. The darkness that swept over me felt like a blanket, and I embraced it, wrapping myself with in it until I could no long comprehend what I was doing. Slowly, ever so slowly, all I know slipped away with me.

Trip exhaled sharply, stepping away from Archer as the captain wrapped a towel around the unconcious Porthos and lifted the dog from the tub.

The Engineer inspected the phase pistol that had been thrusted into his hands earlier. "God, cap'n. Did you really have to stun the dog? Just wait until I tell Phlox."
