Anymore – Chapter 1

When Rose and Scorpius first got together, the mixed reaction they received didn't change throughout their 7 year relationship.

They had both bravely declared their blossoming romance to friends and family over the Christmas holidays in their 5th year at Hogwarts.

Surprise and outrage, the sharing of knowing smiles, the collections of bets and a lot of yelling was the initial reaction, which eventually simmered down to either acceptance or not-so-hidden rage.

But over time, both families got used to seeing the rebellious and passionate redhead from Slytherin, the first of her family to be placed there, and the quiet and protective blonde from Hufflepuff, the first of his, side by side.

They were a clash of forces if ever there was one. Rose was all fire and emotion, the personification of a lightning storm. Clever and sly while being undeniably charming, Rose Weasley was a force to be reckoned with. Scorpius was as solid and strong as the river, as just as calming quiet. His fierce protectiveness was often displayed, especially during the first few year of their relationship, as no Weasley or Potter wanted to see a Malfoy with their kin despite their house, and Scorpius didn't want anyone to hurt Rose.

If you looked at them separately, you wouldn't have seen how it could have worked. You would have missed just how good they were together.

She brought him out of his shell, made him laugh louder, smile wider, and caused both his eyes and his body to dance on more than one occasion. He made her whisper softer, dance slowly and caused her to feel so much more than her personality had allowed her to.

If you were quick, you could see how his face relaxed when he looked at her, his eyes softening just so. If you were quiet, you would hear her whisper the tender things she had sworn off years before. And, if you were there from the beginning, you would have seen how close they always had to be. Even as children, she had taken his hand, and led him out of his self-imposed shadows. He had stood behind her, hands on shoulders, to calm her down before she got another detention. An arm slung around a waist, a soft caress of the face, a quick peck, a slow kiss, a half-hearted tickle of the ribs. They were always touching, always next to each other. In every class, at every meal, in common rooms and hidden rooms and lost corridors.

They had both caused riots from their very first day – A proud Weasley, who encompassed every Gryffindor trait, was placed into the Slytherin dormitories. A quiet but strong Malfoy allied himself with the Badgers, instead of the typical green. Their families were furious, but both agreed that it was this placement that brought out the best in them. It allowed them to spread their wings that had been hidden from their families for so long.

Rose and Scorpius were friends for years, along with Albus (who wore the Blue of Ravenclaw proudly) before they started dating, but everyone could see it coming a mile off. It started in 4th year – the glances lingered as did the touches. He went out of his way to make her laugh, she went out of hers to get him socialising. Those related to them who were at Hogwarts made bets, on the day they'd come out. The old grandparents had guessed the probability that it would happen. The parents tried to ignore the frequency that a certain person was mentioned in each letter.

So really, on that windy night when they announced to the families that they were, indeed a couple, it was only the parents (namely fathers) who were displeased.
