Take Two!
AJ Wonkette
Summary – A re-write of the scene where Anne figured out what's going on… how I envisioned it as it was happening.
A/N: I thought the movie was very excellent, I'm not saying it SHOULD have been this way, but when she looked at Carl the way she did, I just imagined this little scene.

"No!" Anne twisted in Jack's firm grasp. Suddenly, she stopped dead. Carl Denham stood before her. Of all the people rushing around, he was the only one standing still. Absolutely still. A maniacal grin was on his face, the word "Success!" practically stamped across his forehead. But he wasn't looking at Anne. He wasn't even looking at Jack. She followed his gaze to where the ape…to where Kong was busting through the gates. Success…
Anne looked around at the other men, realizing that they were prepared for combat, prepared to take down the beast…and the chloroform. They were going to capture him! Take him back to New York and make a sideshow of him! Anne looked back at Carl's insane, pleased grin…imagining the money he was about to make, she guessed, rather accurately. He cared nothing for her, the girl who he'd done everything short of dropping to his knees and begging to get her to come. He cared nothing for any of the men here who were risking their necks to do what he ordered. He didn't even care for Jack, who was supposedly an extremely close friend of his. He just cared about capturing that ape, and making millions off him.
"NO!" Anne screamed, ripping out of the surprised Jack's arms. She flew over to Carl and with all her strength, slapped him across the face. A few hours ago, Anne would have let them do whatever they pleased to the beast, but that was before. That thing they were trying to bring down had saved her life. The ape knew beauty, he knew serenity. He had a soul. And Anne was not about to let them take him away to kill his soul.
"Whoa! What!" he gasped, looking at her in surprise.
"Don't you dare capture him!" Anne growled, her hands clenched at her sides. Carl raised an eyebrow.
"We've got to live out the dream, Annie! People died for this show! We've got to live it… for them! We'll donate the money to their wives and kids, don't you know how much they'll need the money?" he asked.
"Asshole. You lied to me. You lied to everyone here. You're lying now. The only one who gives a shit about the money is YOU!" Anne shrieked. Jack and a few of the other men grabbed her and hauled her off to the boat. Her spectacle had drawn stares from some of the men, however, even with the threat of a giant ape coming their way. Carl looked around at them all.
"Traumatized, poor girl." He explained loudly. "She'll be okay. I'll pretend she never said those things to me. She'll be fine again, after a good-night's sleep." Everyone accepted the explanation and turned back to what they were supposed to be doing. Carl faced the beast coming towards him grimly. She was right, he realized sadly. He was risking everything everyone had just to get his name in lights, and the cash that went with it. And he knew how wrong that was. And he…well…he regretted it. But it was too late for him to change now.
Much too late.

Yeah, it's really short. Itold you, it's just a tiny scene thatI came up with while watchingfor the first time today.I have a few other short pieces in my head about this film, and I might type those up and post them later.
And I wish it to be known I don't hate Carl. I actually think he's a lot better guy than he lets himself be. I might write a piece on that. Actually, I probably will. But this is it for now.
