Ashes
It's hard, sitting in the infirmary when you know what is happening in the world beyond your safe haven. You thought hard about leaving, about joining the revolution happening outside the castle walls, but you know you cannot. To do that would be to leave your students, your charges, at the mercy of the monsters currently at the helm.
You wonder what use is mercy when there is none there to be had?
You have to be on hand to heal their trembling nerves, to heals their cuts and scratches, and occasionally, to soothe away the night terrors that leave them screaming and begging and crying.
You dream in red, blood and anger and hatred. You see your students, some of them cowering in fear, some of them defiant in their pride, and you want nothing more than to protect them all; each and every one of them are too young to see the things they're seeing, to feel the things they're feeling.
You are proud of them, and it is for them you stay.
You know that if you left, there would be no replacement hired. It would put more pressure on the colleagues that are still trying to help in the limited fashions they're able. You curse the hand you've all been dealt, but you shoulder the responsibility of your students well being with a stiff upper lift and a forever raised head.
You will not cower to the cowards and their cruelty.
You will stand strong in the face of their hatred and you will heal until they decide you cannot. If things do not change, that day will arrive, and you know that with certainty.
You will face that, as you do everything else. With strength. With bravery. With the intense knowledge that you might have been a Ravenclaw but you have the heart of a lion and the cunning of a snake and the loyalty of a badger.
You may have been a Ravenclaw, but now you are Hogwarts Healer, and you stand proudly to protect those who dwell in your home and you will until you are ashes on the ground.
