Summary. Rainy Day sadness Drabble.
Listen to the Raindrops
Dawn woke up to pitter pattering on the ancient window pane next to her bed. Drops were pounding at an even rhythm from the glass to the brick. Ummm, she thought as she stretched out. Wait! Noooo! She reached for her cell phone beside the bed.
"What is it with this London weather always raining?" She exclaimed to the room as she checked the weather forecast.
The door opened. "Dawnie, what's wrong?" , asked Buffy.
"Why does it have to rain on days when I have outdoor plans?"
"It was you who wanted to go to school here. Now get up so we can go down to breakfast together."
Buffy closed the door as Dawn stuck out her tongue. Ish. Toothbrushing and shower now.
After showering, Dawn put on some non descript clothes. It looked like a day in studying. She would have to call Colin and reschedule the planned picnic in the park.
The dining room at Slayer Central was noisy as ever . The number of Slayers kept changing but the noise level remained the same. Buffy and Dawn sat at their set aside table. The Chief Slayer had some perks. It did afford some level of privacy as to be heard.
Dawn tucked into her plate of pancakes happily. It wasn't often that the cook made allowances for American palates.
Buffy smiled and relaxed. Dawn could be so mercurial at times even now that she was officially an adult. Some of the girls had hinted that Dawn was seeing someone.
"Were your outdoor plans with a special person or a group?" Buffy looked down and cut up sausages.
Dawn hesitated. "He's a guy I met in my Philosophy class." She bit her lip. "We just started talking one day and clicked. At least I thought so. And..And I'd like to know him better.
"That's nice. A nice human. He is a human, isn't he?"
"Sheesh. Just because you have a problem doesn't mean I do."
Buffy looked hurt and sighed. The pain was just too fresh. She couldn't lose it here in front of the girls. She pushed the dish away, gathered up her things and walked as fast as she could out of the room.
"Buffy I didn't mean it! Come back!" But the door was closing.
Buffy ran to her room, locked the door. After pacing back and forth, the tears gushed forward uncontrollably. Buffy peered out the window. The drops on the window were in synch with her crying.
It went on and on.
