Alfred opened his eyes with a jolt, moonlight filtered into the bedchamber. Something was off. For a moment the King couldn't place what it was until he realized it was the lack of a warm body next to him. Sitting up he looked around, from the angle of the moonlight it can't have been later than 3 am. Much too early for Arthur to have gotten up. Feeling uneasy, Alfred grabbed his glasses instead of falling asleep again.
Getting out of bed he walked to the bathroom and looked into the bathroom, lighting the lamp as he entered. He squinted his eyes against the intruding light.
"Arthur?" he asked as he entered the bathroom, which looked the same way he left it before he feel asleep the night before. Huffing he blew the lights out.
Still not satisfied he walked out of the royal suite and into the halls.
"Artie?" he asked his voice echoing against the marble.
The only answer was an eerie science. Walking faster through the halls he headed down to where the court hall was. However he stepped in something wet as he reached the dead end near the stairs.
Shining his light down on the ground Alfred shook with fear. He had stepped in a pool of red liquid- blood. His eyes followed it until he was met with the sight of a body lying lifelessly on the floor. More scarlet blood smeared the floor all around it.
Alfred didn't even feel himself scream out the word "No" nor did he hear it as he flung his light down and ran over to the small, fragile body.
Blood stained the Queen's once well kept hair, and more was pouring out from a wound on in his chest.
"Alfred?" Arthur whispered, blood trickling out of the side of his mouth.
"Arthur, don't talk! What happened? Who did this too you!" Alfred panicked brushing back the other's hair. His battle experience told him there was no time to get help, he could see that from the amount of blood.
"Alfie dearest," the green eye-ed man said forcing a smile and reaching his hand up to his lover's cheek, "I love you."
Alfred sat there stunned as he watched the light fade from those emerald eyes, feeling the hand on his cheek go limp. He was watching his worst nightmare play out, and there was nothing in all his power as the king he could do to stop it.
He wasn't aware he was crying until he saw tears drop into the pool of blood.
"No God damn it, don't leave me! I can't do this without you! I love you!" he said burying his face into other's still chest.
"I can't do this without you," he whispered into the bloodstained chest, barely aware of the footsteps of the guards approaching down the halls.
