It was 3 a.m. in the morning. All the cabin counselors were allowed one break for the weekend and some idiot suggested that they all go camping. Now, looking back, Katie wasn't even sure why she agreed. Sleeping on dirt, sticks, and stones. Bugs crawling everywhere. The sleeping bag was little comfort compared to the bumpy ground. There was no A.C. to adjust the temperature. This was nature at it's finest. And Katie hated it.
Now, most people would find it ironic since Katie was a daughter of Demeter. And Katie did love nature. She loved the sun. She loved the flora, the fauna. The ground. But, she didn't love all of those things in the middle of the night. At a random location in the woods. Where a bunch of monsters can come and have a midnight demigod buffet. No, that wasn't much fun.
Now, Katie was the only one awake, surrounded by loud, snoring, drooly demigods. Well, actually, Katie wasn't the only one awake. One other important person was awake. That other person was the head counselor of the Hermes cabin. Brother to Conner Stoll. Yup. That one person was Travis Stoll. The one person who she secretly had a crush on for four years (ever since she came to Camp Half Blood). The one person who loved to play pranks on her and steal her gardening gloves. The one person… who has captured her heart.
And now, in the pitch-black darkness of random woods, Katie finally got the courage to … ask Travis out on a date. Yes, this was her one moment and she was not going to chicken out.
"Hey Stoll!" Katie whisper/yelled.
"Yeah?" said person replied.
Katie started blushing immensely. "Do you… maybe want to go out for a movie sometime?"
There was absolute silence.
"Katie… I'm Conner."
