Sleepless Nights
Severus Snape was watching his partner Remus Lupin sleep in the middle of the night. Partner was really the only term to use. Boyfriend would suggest a committed relationship, which they did not have. Lover was not a correct term since there was no love involved in the act whatsoever. Their relationship was based on comfort and the understanding of being outcasts in their society. Severus could not love someone who was quixotic, Remus could not love someone without compassion. Their arrangement suited them both well for they knew that it they probably would not live to form meaningful future relationships
