XXXXXXXXXX
Lily Evans was proud to say that she was perfectly normal, thank you very much.
It was perfectly normal, after all, to take classes like Herbology, Potions, and Transfiguration. It was perfectly normal, after all, to live in a castle. And it was perfectly normal, after all, to be a witch!
Lily broke the quill she was holding in half.
The problem wasn't that her life was perfectly normal, not at all. The problem was that her perfectly normal life had perfectly horrid people in it.
You see, Lily Evans had the absolute, utter, terrible misfortune to be dating an absolute turd, known to the majority of the school as James Potter. And James Potter, the turd, was friends with Sirius Black (the poop).
Between the pair of them, they were insufferable.
You see, Lily couldn't be stuck working with a perfectly normal group of people, no, she was stuck with the most annoying boys in the entire world who's mission (she'd figured) was to drive her absolutely stark raving MAD.
"I dunno Prongs, I'm tempted to give Peter a Troll, just to see the look on his face."
Her boyfriend sniggered, then frowned, "Nah we can't do that, he's our friend. But what about Dorcas? She didn't do too well on this project."
They continued their arguing as Lily just listened. They were assigned with grading their Transfiguration class' last practical exam, only because McGonogall wanted to see how much the students actually understood of the grading process. Splitting the students into groups, she'd given each group a grading assignment.
Lily hadn't known that the Transfiguration professor hated her, but she must, to put her with these two.
Why, oh why, couldn't she have been put with a perfectly normal group of people?
(Not that Lily didn't love these boys – she did – most of the time, but today, they were being perfect asses).
Finally, when they were discussing the differences between Exceeds Expectations and Acceptable, Lily had had enough, "Oh, come on! Just give 'em all B minuses!" she shouted. When they froze, she grabbed the grading rubric from them and started doing it herself.
"Lily dear?" James said next to her. She ignored him. It was perfectly normal to occasionally hate one's boyfriend, after all.
"Lily? There's no such thing as a B minus in the wizarding world."
Covering her mistake, she didn't even look at him (for fear that he'd see the heinous red blush covering her cheeks), "Right. Acceptable then."
She started crossing out her previous words and writing the proper, wizarding one in, wondering when her life had strayed so far from normal.
