The Chaos Unleashed (English Version)

Prologue

The Chaos Emeralds are mysterious gems with almost unlimited energy. Of course, one of them is not the enough strong, but it's said that all seven are able to perform a miracle. They receive power from the Master Emerald, a "Giant Chaos Emerald" that controls all the others, which no one is able to control. But… Do they always work in the same way each time they're used? No.

The unyielding Chaos Energy is in all of us, every single life being has a little of it, some have more… And others have less… But what really matters, is how strong their soul is, how strong are their intentions for using that power. These emeralds react to emotions felt by the user, like love, cheer, happiness… Or can be drown into dark, evil energy, like death, hate and pain… But there's no positive without a negative, and there's no negative without a positive. They won't be always used for good intentions, these are also used for dark and evil intentions, and sometimes…. Sometimes light has darkness inside it, no one can exist without the other, it's a balance between good and evil, which we all know how it works.

So the Chaos Emeralds and the Chaos Energy are just… That… Chaos… An endless battle between good and evil, love and hate, life and death. It's a disorder of emotions and events which happen through a time-space continuum, if one stops existing, the entire universe can collapse and start again, over and over. That's how the balance works.

This is one of those universes… This is The Chaos Unleashed...

We are teleported to an unknown place, a huge storm was causing a fierce wind which lifted the dust from the ground and furious thunders caused by the clash of thunderbolts with the ground. Raindrops smeared certain zones of this dark place and the mud was being splashed by hundreds of people —armed to the teeth— who were approaching a building close to them.

—Open the door! We suggest no resistance! In the name of the Terra Special Force, you must stop all operations now! — shouted one of the soldiers, who received no answer, it seemed the one who was in there didn't want to go out. After several calls without any success, the soldiers stick an explosive on the door and went into the building. They were forced to descend lots of floors, the building seemed to have no energy, electricity wires were sparking while being hanged here and there, and the lights were a bit off.

—F-Finally… The power is mine! — a voice could be heard at the end of the corridor, with sign language, tactic like always, the soldiers split in two groups, one of them in a defense stance, protecting the back of the other group, which will approach the place where the voices were coming. The room was narrow and neglected, the same as the corridors, torn painting, wires hanging all over the place and lights which didn't work well. There was a person standing next to a huge machine, which was holding the Master Emerald in its center, two needles were getting closer by both sides of it, it seemed that those were extracting its energy.

—Hahahaha! — a peculiar laugh was heard —You're late. You're too late! You can't stop it now! — said in between laughs, it seemed that they were treating with a psychopath.

—Freeze! Hands up! — a soldier shouted while instantaneously aiming at the person with a tommy gun and gnashing his teeth, nervous due to the fact of not knowing what could that person do, a drop of sweat was sliding along his face. The rest of the soldiers aimed at the subject, a bit more relaxed, holding their hands next to the trigger so, as soon as they see any move, they kill him.

—Don't you understand? — he asked with a smile, he put his hands up fearlessly, and started to walk towards them. The soldiers moved backwards while softly pressing the trigger, without firing. —The Earth is a beautiful place, with a great variety of life beings that I want to protect and preserve, the war must be stopped and I'll solve it through the unifications of these life beings with my method. With the power of the Chaos Emeralds, the world can be a better place— he said.

—Stop the machine or we'll shoot! — the soldier shouted again, aiming with great accuracy at the head of the subject —You have five seconds to stop it! — he shouted again, his face was filled with rage, he started to lose patience.

—It seems you didn't hear it, so I'll say it again— the subject answers back —It's too…! —

—Warning! Warning! Energy Overcharge! Energy Overcharge! — the computer said while the alarms started ringing and the room was dyed red. The alarm continued ringing for a few more seconds.

—This can't be possible! My calculations were perfect! — the subject shouted while an excessive amount of swat slid along his body, he grasped his head with both hands with desperation and approached the machine to abort the process, but it was already late. When he got closer to it, this exploded, destroying the whole building, killing all soldiers, and wiping an island out of existence. The Chaos Emeralds of this place became a relic in the depths of the ocean, waiting to be found.

We go back to the present time. We find three known characters running at high speed through a bridge which went form the Earth all the way to the Moon, but unluckily for them, everything is collapsing, and they must hurry and get to the earth before ending in the emptiness of space.

—Better get out of here fast! This whole place is coming down! — shouts the blue colored character, who boosts at a really high speed, overtaking the two characters alongside him.

—Well, you broke its core! That caused a massive loss of energy to maintain the bridge's stability! — shouts one of the characters that was left behind while spinning his tails faster to hurry.

—The real problem is that all the pieces are falling towards Earth! — shouted the other character, of big knuckles and red spines. His face showed a bit of fear, but emotion at the same time due to the adrenaline caused by danger.

—Well, I've done the same thing as always. Destroy Eggman's plan and save the world! — shouted Sonic, who was nagged quickly. —You need to think and create better plans! — shouted Tails with fury in his eyes. Looks like he's always responsible of the plans in the team, since Sonic usually makes a disaster without thinking of it, but his intentions are kind.

—You've maybe destroyed my base and make a fool of me once again. But I Won't let you get out alive! — a voice was heard resounding in the empty space. Sonic, Tails and Knuckles feel a bit nervous by an uncomfortable silence that came as soon as the voice stopped sounding. —So the egg is angry again— Sonic says while smiling as always, proving that everything was going to be okay. But he didn't know that things will go against him in spite of being the protagonist of this story. I mean, don't think you're not going to have any problem after crushing the plans of an evil doctor, just saying. Something bad is going to happen later of course, and that moment is now.

The bridge starts shaking and continues to split faster, increasing the tension between the protagonists. Immediately, steel tentacles —that seemed almost impenetrable— hammer the ground to tear all pieces apart. Behind our heroes, a huge and threatening steel armor raised, there was a crystal in the center of it and Doctor Eggman was laughing behind it. —I'll make sure to send you all directly to oblivion! — he shouted menacingly —And I will do it with the Master Emerald's power! —. Sonic and Tails stared irritated at Knuckles, who —ironically— chuckled. One more time, the doctor played his old tricks again to steal the Master Emerald and set it in the center of his armor, which rotates quickly to protect Doctor Eggman and showing the legendary gem. It sounds like the Doomsday Zone, though nothing will remain the same, a dangerous and extreme essence can be felt.

The Master Emeralds starts shining in a blink of an eye, taking five seconds to charge completely, a strong noise resounds in the ears of our heroes before an overwhelming energy ray is shot all across the bridge, vanishing it almost completely. In a few seconds, the ray crashes into the Earth and destroys all surroundings. Fortunately for our heroes, Sonic managed to save Tails and Knuckles, who quickly took them to one of the sides of the bridge, away from danger.

—I will take care of this. I caused it and now I'll fix it— Sonic turns around to face Eggman, leaving them behind. He was a bit upset.

—You can't do this alone, Sonic! — Tails shouted—

—Yes— Sonic interrupts —I won't put you all in danger for something that was initially my fault, you said it— he continued —Bring the Tornado and go back to Earth, I will end with Eggman—. Tails remains silent and looks at the watch on his wrist, he presses a few buttons in it. —The Tornado will arrive in a few minutes—

—Sonic— Knuckles says —We insist, but if you want to do this alone, you have to get closer to Eggman's Armor, then you can use the Master Emerald's energy for a final boost and stop him—

—Thanks, Knuckles— Sonic looks at him sideways and smiles before glancing the giant armor, which was flying towards the Earth at high speed thanks to its propellers, which used the Master Emerald's Energy. After looking at it for a few seconds, he closes his fist and jumps to the other side of the bridge, after that, he continues bouncing afterwards so he can approach Eggman. If Eggman gets to Earth with his armor, he would destroy cities, or something worse. Sonic knew it was dangerous and that's why he decided to go alone, but in spite of knowing that, his pride stopped him from thinking that things could turn better if he brought his friends.

In a couple of minutes, Sonic and Eggman entered the Earth's atmosphere, the bridge's pieces —which were orbiting the Earth— started to fall into it like asteroids, destroying everything around them, fortunately there was no city in the surroundings, but the damage to the Earth's crust won't be healed. Sonic uses the gravity's force to boost towards Eggman and approach him, however, he forgot that he cannot defend himself while floating in the air. Doctor Eggman took advantage of it, aiming at Sonic once more with the Master Emerald and launched him away with a strong energy ray. Our hero, who was seriously damaged, falls towards the Earth, almost unconscious.

A strong scream can be heard between the sound of engines. Sonic's name could be heard like there was no tomorrow, and thanks to it, our hero recovers his consciousness, but he couldn't save himself from his crashing fate. Fortunately, the Tornado passes by almost immediately, Knuckles carries him with both arms and then lays him on one of the Tornado's wings.

—Hey, are you okay? I thought we were about to lose you — Knuckles says a little worried, but happy about Sonic being at least conscious.

—I-I'm fine— he answers stuttering while standing in his feet slowly, his body was shaking. —Eggman is going to get away with his plans, I can't let it happen! — he shouts angrily.

—Don't worry, we will approach him soon, my radar tells me Eggman is getting closer to Station Square, I bet he wants to destroy it— Tails says while speeding up the Tornado, flying at an incredible speed.

Meanwhile in Station Square, citizens were walking or working as always, and like every assault against a city, no one expects it. The sky dyes gray to de smoke of Eggman's big machine, and everything turns more threatening. We get into one of the houses, it was close to the center, five squares away of Casinopolis. A small family of hedgehogs lived there, a mother called Nicol, and his son Connor.

—The day's awful, just when I was going out to the office— she said upset —Well, as the responsible mother that I am I must work to feed my child— she continued saying overprotective.

—I'm lucky I don't have to go to school— Connor answers back —And I don't have to, and even if I wanted to, you wouldn't let me go—. He didn't go to school since his mother thinks that education is better at home, she was very intelligent and although her job is not of great fame, she has a good reputation between the mothers of the neighborhood. She looks at him with envy and smiles with a little giggle, then opens the door to go out and a strong wind messes up her long white wavy hair, which she spent ours combing. She combs it quickly with her hand, then turns back to look at her son with her light blue eyes.

—Goodbye, my child! I'll see you later! — she smiles while closing the door and walking towards her office, a bit closer to the center. After that, the hedgehog lays on the sofa and turns on the TV, and as usually, it was set in the news channel, which her mother watches every day before going to work just to know the weather and any last minute report.

—Wow! The weather tricked us this time, don't you think Daniel? — the reporter asks to her cameraman while combing her hair with her hand, with some giggles, she stares at the camera afterwards. —Looks like we're having a cloudy sky these next hours with strong winds of fifty miles per hour. It won't rain, luckily, and there's no chance for a hurricane, but if some of you thought of going for a picnic, then this day is not for you— she continued. She then stares at the cameraman worried. —D-Daniel? Why do you look at me like that? What do I have in my face? —

—Over there! There's something in the sky! — the cameraman, terrified, points at something in the sky, it was Eggman's armor approaching, he quickly focuses the camera towards it. —This is bad. Really bad! — he shouted.

—Daniel! As reporters we must bring the last news! — she interrupted to cheer him up. —Besides, Sonic will arrive in any moment to stop the evil Doctor Eggman! —

—Eggman…— Connor sighs a bit worried. —Mom's out and then this happens, hope nothing bad happens to her… Or… Or I'll do something! — he continued talking to himself to raise his courage. He wasn't that brave, but he always promised to protect his family and the ones he loved, although he always tried to not get into trouble.

—Citizens of Station Square! — Doctor Eggman shout through a speaker, his threatening voice was being recorded with the cameras of the news channel. —I, Doctor Eggman, claim this city as part of my empire, and those who are against it will pay the consequences! — he continued —Your heroe won't come back, I took care of him personally, and no one is here to save you, surrender, and I won't use violence. But if someone raises his voice, if someone makes a move against me, I'll blow this city into pieces! — when finished, the armor rotates and shows the Master Emerald, already charged and prepared to shoot its destructive energy ray. Some were scared, and some others shouted in panic. Engine noises came from the distance; it was the Tornado who was quickly getting close to Station Square for a counter-attack.

—Charge! — Tails shouted focused, while boosting towards Doctor Eggman with Sonic and Knuckles on both wings of the plane.

—You again!? I thought I exterminated you! — the Doctor screamed in surprise while rotating the armor to aim at them.

—You'll have to try harder if you want to-…! — without even finishing, Doctor Eggman shoots at the Tornado, and in an attempt of doding the attack, the ray strikes one of the wings. Unfortunately, Sonic was standing on it, and he's just recovered of his last wound. The Tornado loses control and crashes into the ground, Tails and Knuckles are launched towards while the Tornado set on fire. The people around looked with panic at the fallen heroes, but some others just fled away.

—Well, it's a shame that your heroes are the ones responsible of your problems. Now I'll have to destroy this entire city. I'll start my empire here, with you in it or not! — the Doctor said while thinking where will he put each building.

—I think this wasn't a good day to work, definitely not— Nicole said while looking at the huge armor and gulping. —I'm having my free day with the excuse of an evil doctor attacking the city, perfect— she continued talking to herself.

—KYAAAAA! — a strong scream shocked everyone surrounding and caught Eggman's attention, instantaneously a blue sphere appears in front of the big mech, it was Sonic, who fiercely kicks the Master Emerald and backs, he couldn't destroy it, but it cracked. Doctor Eggman is scared and rotates the armor to cover it behind layers of impenetrable metal.

—You really are annoying— the Doctor says while losing his patience, he then takes control of the armor's tentacles and starts to attack the hedgehog fiercely, however, these were all dodged. Dust started to raise with every attack, both of them started to lose their sight.

Knuckles and Tails stood up slowly, shaken by the impact. Both turn around just to see Sonic dodging Eggman's attacks like child's game.

—Sonic needs our help! — Tails screamed while closing his fist near his chest —If we manage to destroy the Master Emerald, Eggman's mech will be useless! — he continued.

—We can't go through the armor, Tails, only something really strong can destroy it— answers the echidna —Like Super Sonic—. Then he facepalms himself while realizing something. —Sonic! — he shouts —Use the Master Emerald to transform! —.

—I would, but I need time— Sonic shouts back, almost being hit by one of the tentacles, he needs to be focused on the doctor's attacks if he didn't want to get another beating.

—You need Dime!? — Knuckles misunderstood.

—He said time. How can we do that? — Tails says while looking at Knuckles quite thoughtful.

—I'll transform— Knuckles says —I will stop Eggman— he then closes his eyes and his fists, focusing the Master Emerald's energy inside his body. A pink aura surrounds his body and his skin glows.

—T-Transform!? It's been a long time since you don't use it! — Tails was shocked, but actually, it's been more than 10 years since Knuckles didn't use his transformation. Knuckles then screams fiercely, and his skin is glowing pink.

—I will stop Eggman with this, if not, It will give enough time to Sonic to transform— he says.

Sonic continued dodging non-stop, but in the end, one of them catches him off-guard and grabs him by his neck, asphyxiating him. He suddenly screams desperately, grabbing the tentacle with all his might to escape. Eggman laughs as always, he had the hedgehog just where he wanted, but he didn't know what would happen next.

—Knock Knock! — a voice echoed in eggman's ears, catching his attention, a pink blur is sighted by all the mech's cameras. Eggman felt shocked

-It's Knuckles! — Knuckles focuses all his strength in his fist and strikes with all his might, launching the armor to one of the surrounding buildings. Sonic is able to escape the tentacle thanks to that. The mech gets up with a big dent on it.

—T-Thank you — Sonic says while taking some air, kneading his neck.

—Use the Master Emerald to transform, this is tougher than leather. I'll give you the time you need— Knuckles flexes his muscles and stares at Eggman —Let's dance! —. Eggman laughs uncontrollably and hits the control panel with the palm of his hand.

—That look doesn't suit your style at all! It's too much for you, Knuckles! — says the doctor, making fun of him.

—And since when you know about style? You don't look that festive! — Knuckles also makes fun of him —Oh, and your moustache is really old fashioned—. The doctor suddenly stopped laugh and takes control of the armor, charging at him with full power.

—DON'T YOU DARE TO LAUGH AT MY MOUSTACHE! — the doctor screamed, it seemed he was out of control. But his attack was dodged easily, Knuckles jumped high into the sky and fell right into the armor, striking it with huge strength with both knuckles and almost going through it. The surrounding ground gets destroyed and Knuckles jumps away from the mech, getting closer to Sonic.

—Do you need more time? — he smiles —Because I'm almost over—. Suddenly, the whole place is blinded, and Sonic is surrounded by a golden aura.

—How dare you start a party without me? — Sonic says while being in his transformation, Super Sonic, his idle finger raised, his eyes closed and a pretentious smile. Eggman sweats, the tables were being turned against him. As his last resort, he uncovers the Master Emerald, fully charged.

—ALL SYSTEMS! FULL POWER! — he shoots a devastating energy wave, easily deflected by Super Sonic, who looks at Knuckles.

—Go Knuckles! Destroy the Master Emerald! — he was blocking the Master Emerald's attack, his body started to give up, being pushed by the energy wave. Knuckles jumps quickly into Eggman's mech.

—KRYAAAA! — he focuses all his energy in the peak of his knuckles and hits the Master Emerald with all of it. The Emerald shatters into lots of pieces, which flew away in all directions. Eggman's armor gets totally useless and falls into the ground. Super Sonic smiles once more and boosts into the rounded mech, he then focuses all his energy in his instep and kicks it, launching it into the skies.

—SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE! — the hedghehog screams while turning back into his base form.

—I'LL COME BACK! AND WILL MAKE SURE I DESTROY YOU NEXT TIME! — the armor disappears in the horizon —SOOOOOONIIIIIIIIIIIC! —.

Knuckles sighs and turns back into his bawse form, and scratches his head.

—Sooooo… We gotta recover the Master Emerald's pieces— he looks at Sonic and Tails

—Let's go then, I have my radar ready! — Tails says —However, the Tornado is destroyed, if you give me some time, I can repair it—

—In that case, I'll start looking by myself— Knuckles says and looks at Sonic —What about you? —

—I'll stay here and help repair all the damage— giving his usual thumbs up —Station Square need some help for now—

—Would you mind taking the Tornado to my workshop? — Tails asks Knuckles, who nods the head.

After that, our heroes take separate ways, Knuckles and Tails take the rests of the Tornado to Mystic Ruins, while Sonic stays in Station Square, helping the citizens who needed his help, although there wasn't any human damage, lots of buildings got destroyed.

Some footsteps and an out-of-breath voice can be heard, the footsteps got slower over time.

—M-Mom! —it was Connor. His black spines were overflowed with sweat, it actually wasn't that far away, but he was nervous. He flexes his legs and rests his hands on the knees.

—Connor! — Nicole smiled —Don't worry darling! I'm okay! —. Connor smiles relieved. He then looks at Sonic.

—T-Thank you! You saved my mom! How can I help you? — Connor asks

—There's no need for that! A smile is enough for me — Sonic replies

—I'd like to join you and help you defeat Eggman! — His mother suddenly stands in front of him.

—NO WAY! — she shouts fiercely. Sonic gets scared. Angry women are scary, specially moms.

—H-Hey, please calm down. Anyway, there's always a place for a friend— Sonic says —I can—

—I SAID NO! — she folds her arms angry. Connor turns away from his mother. He always wanted to protect her, but never had the chance to do that.

—I finally have the chance to be somebody and you don't let me do it! — he breathes angrily while walking home alone. Nicole turns around and follows him, smiling warmly at Sonic.

—Thanks anyway— she says before going further away.

Days passed and the disaster was undone. Sonic disappears from Station Square to visit Tails and help him. Although our heroes are relaxed, Eggman had more plans under his sleeves.

In his secret base, away from any other civilization, and with no marks that reveals it location. A Master Emerald shard breaks through the walls, falls into the ground, and spins on it until it touches something metallic. The energy emanated from it turns on dozens of red lights.
