A/N: I did it last year, so I did it this year. A Valentine-ish fic for y'alls to read. It's not long or thorough in any sense but I wanted to put something out. First part of this was inspired a bit by a scene in an RP I was in a few months ago.
Enjoy!
Ella slid into the seat across from the girl in grey.
"Do you need something, song bird?"
Ella blinked for a moment before standing again, smoothing her skirt down properly, and walking.
She sat right beside her.
"What are you doing?"
Ella promptly gave the grey girl a loose hug.
She tensed up and dropped the fork she held with food still attached. No one ever dared to hug her. Her violet eyes were full of confusion.
"You don't have to be alone all the time," Ella told her with a smile.
The girl took slight offense to that and scoffed, trying to keep her façade up for the moment. "I don't have to listen to you. You're just a little princess girl."
"You could be too," Ella pointed out.
"Please, princesses are weak and depend on princes to save them from their familial problems."
"Did you never have a princess phase?"
"No."
Ella gasped.
The grey girl stood and left, not even cleaning up her food. "No prince will ever save you." She wiped her eye.
"Jo, wait!" Ella stood and ran after her.
Jo was a champion sprinter, Ella couldn't keep up.
Jo escaped, for now. Unfortunately this wasn't the last she'd hear of this from Ella.
333
Jo went to her mailbox the next day to collect anything she might've recieved. Today was the red and pink heart day she despised, and she wasn't in a good mood. She grabbed her papers and went to stuff them in her bag when a pink card fell out. She looked down at it and snatched it off the ground.
It had a heart on the front.
A Valentine card.
The other mailboxes were full of them. People who actually cared to make friends had little boxes of heart shaped candy and chocolate in theirs, along with messages of appreciation.
Jo was not one of those people.
At first the small bit of hope she was clinging to guessed it was from a guy.
The rest of her was not at all hopeful, and guessed it was from Ella. That side always won, it was the side that had her winning competitions and not caring what other people thought of her. Jo frowned and tore it up, tossing it in the nearest recycle bin.
Inside, the note had read:
Jo,
Permission to express myself?
I hoped to ask you this in person at lunch yesterday, but you left before I could...
Would you like to go out with me tonight?
It doesn't have to be anything big. I don't think you would be into doing anything overly romantic, though I could be wrong.
I wouldn't be surprised if you said no. I know you don't think very highly of me based on the varying nicknames you've given me in the past and the endless bragging at my expense I've heard from you which is oddly attractive.
Please do think about it. I think we could possibly have a good time. Just a thought, maybe we could go run the 10k trail that starts in the park? I've heard it's really something when done in the evening.
Whatever you decide, I do wish you a happy Valentine's Day.
