"Ryuzaki, I have a surprise for you!" Misa said as she rushed into HQ. "I don't have time for that." L said yawning and taking another bite of cake. "Well, too bad!" Misa shouted. This almost scared L. Well, almost. "It's your 26th birthday and we're going to do something for you!" Misa turned to the doorway. "Light!" she called, "Bring it in!" Light entered the HQ with an abnormally large box. L sighed and walked over to him. "Happy birthday." Light mumbled while breathing heavily from being forced to carry such a heavy box. "What is that?" L asked. He grabbed the flap and opened the box. 'What the...?" he mumbled.

L picked a small cat up out of the cardboard box. He looked at the tag. "Whiskers.." he said slowly. He looked up. Misa was beaming. Light was breathing heavily on the floor. "Err, thankyou." he stated standing up. The cat mewed. L blushed. This cat, he thought, is adorable...

Misa gave L a hug. "Happy birthday, Ryuzaki!" she bellowed. She ran upstairs to her room, closing the door behind her. Light sat up. "It was Misa's idea." he said. "I didn't really think you had an animal fetish." L was pleased with his new cat. He smiled broadly. "I'm gonna love it and hold it and cherish it forever!" he screeched. This scared Light. He had never seen L so...excited before. "Meowmeowmeow!" He baby talked to the cat. The cat just stared at him.

3 weeks later.

Light walked downstairs and noticed L sitting on his chair as usual. Light looked around. "Ryuzaki," he began, "Where's the cat?" L turned his head slightly. "Oh, the cat?" he waved his hand dismissively in the air. "It got hit by a bus." Light expression changed from normal to horrified. "What? How?" He stuttered. L took a sip of his tea. "Well, I went out shopping for cake, and I couldn't go inside with him. So, I told him to stay and when I came out he was...well, you can see where that went." Light still looked horrified. "Did you cry?" he asked. L gave him a "you are a moron" look. "No." he said plainly. "I thought you gave me the cat to use for the investigation, so, I wrote the cat's name in the Death Note. To see if it's real." Light's mouth was agape.

Sometimes, even the world's greatest detective has dull moments.
