Before my re-made fanfiction begins please remember that this will not really have much historical or realistic accuracy.
It was the golden age of the great Roman Empire around the 1st century. Their mighty army stood near invincible against the uncivilized barbarians that were among the boarders along with the eastern Parthians(or Persians, whatever.) No difference were the economy and such. The people loved their emperor , riots and corruption were near non-existent. A curtain of unseen before peace and prosperity was put upon the mighty empire.
The person responsible for the the great period of prosperity was the beloved Emperor Placus Maximus. Starting in an unnoticed position of power , he rose up the ranks, marched upon hostile armies after armies with his famous legions, securing the Roman empire and extinguishing any possible threats , barbarian, eastern, or roman like. From there he paved a road of glory for Rome's which lead it to it's economic and military golden age.
Placus had used 25 years to secure the empire from any possible threat and lead Rome to prosperity. Starting in his late twenties he did, and now he was older and rather incapable of doing what he was much famed for when he was younger. Now he only lived as an excellent administrator of the mighty Roman Empire, and with that, a fine luxurious life of an emperor.
Now the only real thing the famed emperor was working on now was stabilizing Rome for after his death. Perhaps making a more proper government which Rome never had since the fall of the Republic.
The head that Maximus planned to replace for his golden crown was on his 2 sons, which were part of his...unusual family. Or at least at the time.
Maximus treated his family more like a modern family which was probably not common in a time such as Ancient Rome. The family consisted of 2 sons, 1 father, and 1 mother. The father was obviously Placus Maximus and his wife and empress the mother (would be bad if it wasn't) which however unfortunately died after giving birth to her 2nd son.
The name of the two sons were Quintus and Flavius Maximus. In their youth as young children theirs roles were supremely similar to modern families due to the fact that they had more of a chance of being spoiled and such than some random peasant. They often fought over their many toys and argued over childish topics, and other times they talked and laughed. Soon however they became older and aged into teens, as teens some certain things about the 2 brothers changed, however they still held their behavior at each other just like any 2 brother would in our same modern world.
Personalities begin to reflect the two brothers more. Quintus was the older one and usually the well mannered one and was wiser than his younger brother. He was also more intelligent along with his interest in history. The younger Flavius was usually the more ill mannered brother, usually being foolish with his actions and was stubborn at times, also being somewhat easy to fool. He also had more of an interest in warfare and in particular gladiator things.
Such traits were coming from the fact that he was younger, therefore born after Quintus and well, I'm sure the readers that are the oldest son/daughter in their families and have a younger brother or sister will know what I am talking about.
These 2 sons of Placus Maximus were who he was planning to choose as heirs and the future leaders of the mighty Roman Empire. However, it never really crossed his mind as a big problem how his 2 sons would be able to rule together, such thoughts on the topic were thoughtlessly brushed away off his mind.
And the topic was never fully thought of until it was mentioned.
