While Katniss would never agree with me, she truly is an amazing mother, even through she thinks that I'm the better parent out of the two of us. But I somehow know that's not entirely true… whenever she is with our daughter, I see a whole different side of her.
It's a gentle, more caring side of her, one that's somewhat familiar to see, because she cared for Prim in a similar way. But it's in her attitude where I can sense that something is completely new, different even it's something that's softer, something… beautiful.
...
Nothing was more so when I caught up with her on one sunny afternoon, walking through the long grass I spotted both of my lovely girls. My wife, Katniss was sitting on the green grass underneath the shade of a large oak tree.
Nestled on the ground she had a peaceful almost dazed look on her face as she watched Willow pick dandelions in the meadow.
It was in the bright light of the afternoon sun that I watched as Willow danced across the meadow as she played. All the while Katniss was keeping a watchful eye on her, I knew nothing could distract her steady gaze from our daughter. Not even the sounds of my heavy footsteps, coming up from behind her would break her steady gaze.
Coming up behind her, she jumped slightly startled when I placed my hand on her shoulder before quickly relaxing when she saw that it was just me.
She gave me a quick smile before she turned her eyes back, watching the little girl in the meadow.
...
"I love her so much Peeta" she said in a slightly desperate tone "I know you do Katniss" I told her with a slight smile, giving her shoulder what I hoped was a reassuring rub.
She took in a deep breath before taking a long pause before saying anything else, I could tell she was pondering over something. "Do you think she'll ever love me as much as I love her?" Katniss finally asked me speaking, her mind and almost as if one cue I saw our little girl run up to meet us.
Katniss smiled bending over to catch her in her arms, and as she did I noticed the flower in Willow's hand.
It wasn't a dandelion like the ones I watched her pick, but a-
"It's a Primrose mommy! For you!" Willow stated proudly, and I could see the tears welling up in Katniss's eyes as she smiled. "Thank you, sweet heart, what's this for?" she asked happily as she took the Primrose from Willow's hand.
"Because I love you" she said and with that, she wrapped arms around her mother's neck, embracing her with all her might.
As she did, I smiled softly taking the opportunity to whisper into Katniss's ear, I think she already does.
