Chapter One - Prologue

"Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does.

Love is a battle, love is a war; love is a growing up."

There was a time when the world made sense. The line between good and evil was thick, and well defined. Those standing on either side knew where they belonged, and knew where their loyalties lied. Sure they each had their own definition of what good and evil were, but they still knew their places among the chaos that was the Wizarding world.

The Order of the Phoenix claimed to fight for justice, and all that was good. Their opposites, the Death Eaters, claimed to fight for the pride, heritage and a quickly vanishing line of purebloods. Each side saw their cause to be the most important, and each had their own way of dealing with things. Both had to do things they weren't proud of, but that is what war does to people, is it not? War is never pretty, but always useless.

Almost thirty years ago, the second Wizard War was ended by a quick slice of a blade. The stories have been passed down, and the details may be slightly fuzzy, but the major point of it was who won. Just like the works of any great story of triumph against the odds, the underdogs came out on top. Harry Potter along with the help of his mentors, friends, and the rest of the Order changed history as we knew it. For some it wasn't a day to celebrate, and loved ones were lost on both sides, but the important thing was the war had finally ended.

But this isn't a history lesson on days long passed. It's weird to think about how a few acts, and decisions of a couple of people could change everything. The foundation of my life, and future was laid by the wars of long ago. The events that happen way before I was born, basically decided how my life was going to play out. The only reason I mentioned the past is because it indirectly shaped the person I am today.

Who am I, you may ask? That part is complicated to explain. Half the time I don't even know that myself. Simply put, I'm Jade D'Amore. That name may not mean a thing to you, and why should it? I never did anything great with my life. Well, at least nothing that was worth remembering in the pages of history. Then again since you are reading this, I suppose you really do want to know my story. Just for the sake of time I'll give you the cliff notes version of the unimportant stuff.

I'm the second daughter of a famous Death Eater, you may have heard of her. Bellatrix Lestrange. Yes, that's dear old mom. I have quite a few siblings, most of which I never knew about until I went to Hogwarts. Apparently my mother got around, and made it a habit of abandoning her children...but that is neither here nor there. I got over my mother issues long ago, and only mentioned her because of how much alike we are, even if I never knew her. Anyway, I was raised by my father, a person who should have never been allowed to be around a child. He is loosely the reason why I am able to tell the story I have. You'll understand why as I get more into detail.

This part of my life is about love, and loss. The person who was supposed to be my future became my past. For it to be told properly, I have to go back to the very beginning. Even before the day we met.
