Thinking with Town Portal

Some people said that the scroll of town portal was a coward's tool. And to those people, Selene felt like telling them to shut up or go to Hell.

Yes, Hell. As in, the realm he was in, below the Tristram Cathedral. As in, the place opposed to Heaven. As in, the place of fire and brimstone where she was confronting the Lord of Terror himself...chuckling away as he cast fire in her direction.

By the Sightless Eye, doesn't the demon ever just die? the rogue wondered. Is it really so hard to kill a Prime Evil?

Apparently it was. And it wasn't helped by the lack of conversation. She'd expected something like "your soul is mine" or "there is no hope" or even something to do with terror itself. But no. More fireballs, more claws and the feeling of dread that was building up in the back of her mind. Maybe it was the effect of being in the presence of the Lord of Terror.

Or maybe it's because I'm in...you know...Hell.

Firing her last arrow, the rogue reflected that it had perhaps gone on too long. Out of arrows, out of health potions, out of mana potions...heck, the only thing she really had of value right now was a scroll of town portal, something to take her back up to Tristram where she could restock, rejuvenate, and hopefully do it faster than the demon before her. She wasn't too keen on staying awhile and listening to Deckard Cain ramble on about everything from Heaven to the Horadrim, but if it meant avoiding being skewered on the overgrown reptile's claws, maybe it would be worth it.

And, you know. Getting out of Bloody Hell!

"You linger, rogue..." the demon growled. "Hesitation...you reek of it."

"Yeah, and this place stinks of sulphur," Selene shot back. "But I've got to go on a shopping spree, and men like you take all my gold coins." She took out her town portal scroll. "Farewell, tall, dark, and ugly."

And with that final insult, Selene cast the spell. A hole opened up in the floor and she jumped through it, content in the knowledge that it would actually take her upwards towards Tristram. And not...you know...further downwards to some brightly lit room with a relaxation chamber.

Which is actually what happened...even if she didn't even know what a relaxation chamber was. Why she didn't know where she was. Or why the first thing she heard was "Hello, and welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Centre."

Or that she was about to discover was Hell truly was.

A/N

The idea for this stemmed from a gag Diablo vehicle, where the hero opened a town portal to Tristram, only for the demons to follow through. Given that the graphic used resembled the portal surfaces from Portal, came up with this idea as a result.
