It's my first try of writing a fic.
All characters belong to Trudi Canavan!
My special thanks go to Laura, my beta reader, thanks my dear! ;)
I hope you enjoy this little piece, if you do, let me tell you, that I'm writing more (and longer bits) about those two.
Vinara sighed. She had just finished the last bit of the weekly paperwork she had to do as Head of the Healers. It was the part of her position she disliked most, but every position had a negative aspect.
She glanced at her timepiece. It didn't take that long, looks I'm getting used to this work – after seven long years. After tidying her desk she got up and left her office in the Healers' quarters. Aware of the fact that she had at least one hour before she was due for her appointment with Lord Telon, the Head of Healer Studies, Vinara decided she'd check on how the other Healers were doing. Two new Magicians, who still had to be trained were on duty this evening.
Just as she descended the last few steps, she heard a familiar voice asking for her. Balkan? I wonder why he's looking for me. Hoping that it wasn't because of bad news, she made her way towards the Head of the Warriors. "Ah, Lady Vinara there you are. I was looking for you."
"Hello Lord Balkan. I know I heard you saying my name. What is it? Do you need Healing?"
To Vinara's surprise Balkan shook his head and answered. "No, My lady. Administrator Lorlen sent me a messenger, he asks the Higher Magicians to come to his office."
Her brows furrowed. "Oh well. But why didn't he send a messenger to me as well? It's not your duty to inform me that there's a gathering of the Higher Magicians as you are one yourself."
She was even more surprised to see her younger colleague blush a little. "Actually, I told the messenger that I'd get you, as I was at the Arena and the Healers Quarters are nearby..." Balkan mumbled the last bit of his reply, so Vinara didn't understand it. This is ridiculous. The Quarters are next to the Arena but Lorlen's office is in the opposite direction. Instead of trying to see the logic aspect of the warrior's way of thinking she nodded. Balkan looked at her, there was something in that look that made her uncomfortable, but she couldn't tell what it was or why. She liked Balkan, they'd formed a comfortable relationship, since he too, had joined the Higher Magicians. However she couldn't explain what it was about his gaze. It was so...intense.
Finally, it was him, who broke the silence. "I guess we should go then. It seemed as if it was important." Suddenly the uncomfortable feeling was gone, hoping her sigh didn't occur in a strange way, Vinara nodded and lead the way.
A/N: This is set during "The Magicians' Guild". Actually the incident with Sonea during the Purge is the reason for the gathering.
PS: I like reviews... :)
