Your Heart
By Nuriko-sama

A/N: In honor of Chichiri's birthday tomorrow (5/21/02), this is a poem about this most honorable monk! Can you guess the POV?

YOUR HEART

Hiding pain beyond a mask of smiles
concealing feelings behind those shadows
and I wonder if you hear me at all.
Today it is that special day
to celebrate when you were born
and yet I wonder still, under that mask
are you celebrating, or crying?
My questions must seem quite absurd
for who can know but you
the one who knows all and hides behind the mask
a smile for me when I'm sad
but tears for you at that same time.
Even my own happiness is a mask
sometimes we draw it up around ourselves
to better conceal the pain and cheer others
even when the smiles don't reach our eyes.
If I gave this to you, would you think
that perhaps I understand
would you share a bit more of your feelings with me?
Would you hide away,
like a frightened deer bolting from the bow,
or would you stay
let me get to know the real you?
Hearts are troubled things
hard to read and hard to determine
crisscrossed with impossible winding mazes
like to the Minotaur's labrynth.
Your heart is run through with hidden passes
feelings concealed behind the smiling, happy mask
where do you go to cry?
Who do you turn to for help?
Could you turn to me? Would you?
For I see behind the mask
see to the real person you are- can be
I tell you this now:
because I know your heart,
you can confide in me.

END

A/N: This poem is for Chichiri, by Nuriko. I wrote it that way because both of them hide their sorrow behind masks- Chichiri's physical, smiling mask, and Nuriko's emotional mask of happiness and laughter. They are like souls, and it seems likely that Nuriko would understand Chichiri, and thus writes this poem to let him know that he understands. See? Easy. Please review, and thank you, no da.
