Kai managed to look up from his PokeCom and wondered if he shouldn't have. Aki was standing in front of him, her cheeks puffed out and her hands balled at her sides, looking for all the world as though she were still a high-school student instead of a world renowned robotics engineer. He supposed some things just never changed.
Though it wasn't like he could talk, given he still played Kill-Ballad as many hours a day as he could manage. Not that he was ashamed – the new version was so much more addicting than the old one.
"Kai!"
She was shouting. That… wasn't good. He wondered what he'd done wrong now. Well, no need to admit to anything. He cocked an eyebrow in question and leaned back in his chair lazily.
That only seemed to anger her further; her entire face was red now. He hid a cringe. Whatever he had done must have been really bad, but- wait. She didn't actually look angry. All of the symptoms were there, but the look in her eye was more determined than angry.
Oh. So she was going to try to force him to do something then. Well, that was a relief. He had actually been worried. He sighed and went back to his game.
"What is it?"
She exhaled sharply, but he didn't bother looking up; she still hadn't said anything yet. He idly wondered how long she was just going to stand there.
He was already halfway through his battle when she finally spoke.
"Marry me!"
He faltered. The opponent got a hit in. He recovered quickly enough and pated on an indifferent expression. It took him less than a minute to win the game; It wasn't nearly enough time to sort through his thoughts.
He looked up at her casually. He hoped he was pulling it off and that his face wasn't as red as he thought it was.
He held up his PokeCom; her face dropped. He couldn't help his smirk. "Only if you lose to me in Kill-Ballad."
She stared at him blankly before she processed what he had said. Her resulting shriek nearly busted his eardrums. Actually, he wasn't sure it hadn't.
She was jumping up and down and looking at him with that smile that outshone the sun; gosh, he was a sap.
"You haven't lost yet."
Theirs was the shortest recorded battle in all Kill-Ballad history.
…
Because Aki wouldn't wait for him too long. And Kai will never quite grow out of being himself.
T.N.T!
