Destiny was a funny word if you ask Peter Parker, He told himself he didn't believe in destiny but with the way things had been going in his life sometimes he stopped and wondered if destiny really did have a part in it. One day he'd even decided to look up destiny in the dictionary, just to see if it was there. The definiton seemed right to him. Inside the book had been two definitions, both seeming to make sense to him so he decided they both must be right
1: something to which a person or thing is destined
2: a predetermined course of events often held to be an irresistible power or agency
When he'd been a boy he'd lost his parents, so obviously he told himself that he had been destined to lose his parents. When he'd become an outcast at school he knew that was part of his destiny too. He'd always thought he'd been destined to follow in his fathers footsteps and become a successful scientist.
Destiny, however, had different plans, when he'd snuck into Oscorp to follow the first real lead he'd ever had on his parent's his life changed forever. All it had taken was one spider bite and his destiny had been changed, sometimes Peter wondered if this wasn't his destiny all along,
When Uncle Ben had died Peter's mind had wandered back to destiny, was this part of his destiny? Was his life supposed to be nothing but loss and suffering? Then he got to know Gwen Stacy, and for a while his life seemed happy and he thought perhaps he was destined to fall in love with her.
When he decided to use his powers for good, instead of just hunting down his uncles killer, he thought maybe this is what his destiny truly was, to help people as Spider-Man
When he discovered the Lizard's real identity he felt betrayed, the man had become like a father to him as they discussed science. As the feeling of betrayal left him he turned his mind back to destiny, was Curt Connors destined to be The Lizard and fight Spider-Man?
He watched in horror as Captain Stacy stood against the Lizard armed with nothing but a shotgun. When he ran out of ammo Peter knew he couldn't reach him in time and watched, blaming himself and destiny, as Captain Stacy was killed.
After defeating the Lizard Peter promised to stay away from Gwen, and he intended to keep it, but he couldn't. He knew he had been destined to fall in love with her, and he had.
They resumed their relationship, though Peter was on edge for fear of his old enemy destiny coming back to strike him. Sure enough a new menace hit the city, calling himself the Green Goblin.
The Green Goblin turned out to be none other than Norman Osborn, who was granted abilities after trying a experimental drug to save his life. The Goblin had deduced who he was through studying his fights with the Lizard and knowing all about the spider who bit Peter.
During the fight he'd discovered Gwen had been kidnapped by the Goblin, who promptly threw her off the bridge. He quickly used his web to save her and pulled her up, happy that he had saved her until he noticed she wasn't breathing. He froze, she was dead.. he had killed her, no Goblin had killed her.
He resumed the fight with goblin, easily beating him, and walked sadly back to Gwen's body. As he held her cold, lifeless body, he knew that he'd been destined to love her, and destined to lose her.
Edit: I don't own Spider-Man, Gwen Stacy, or any of the other characters in this story. Please R&R, hope you like it.
