Dead Things

Loki made as if to follow Thor, but was stopped by Sif's sword to his throat.

"Betray him," she said, in a deadly serious tone, "and I will kill you."

Loki merely smiled at her.

"It's good to see you, too, Sif," he said.

Sif removed her sword, allowing Loki to pass. Loki, however, lingered for a moment. She turned to him in question. He seemed almost hesitant.

"Sif, did you see it, too?" he asked softly. "The dream." He almost touched her, then. "Did you mean it all?"

Sif considered for a moment. It was her turn to smile.

"Let's not talk of dead things before a battle, Loki," she said. "It's bad luck."

Sif thought she saw something like a shadow pass over his face. But she refused to see it, and so it was gone.

And less than a moment later, so was he.
