"Speak now or forever hold your peace."

Is it peace or piece, Sirius wonders. Even though he desperately wants to say what he's always thought, to ruin his best friend's wedding is absolutely unthinkable. He hangs his head and silently mouths the words to himself.

I love you, Lily Evans, and I think you're making a mistake.

Dark and tangled hair blocks his vision of James and Lily kissing in front of their closest friends and family. The ceremony is quite big considering the dangerous times, but Sirius is glad for it. Having such a crowd means that nobody sees his bloodshot eyes or the blotchy redness in his cheeks.

Lily was always meant for James. He ribbed Sirius hard in the side the first time he'd seen her. They weren't even properly friends yet! Nevertheless, he remarked how cute Lily had been with her hair pulled back so that she could read. James has been enamored since day one. Even though his romantic feelings came later, when she eventually told the boys off for bullying her best friend during their fourth year, it didn't negate that James wanted her affections first.

Sirius bit his tongue to prevent tears from spilling over his cheeks.

Lily Evans Potter.

Why would she ever want to be a Black anyway?
