RESOLVE
Generations wait
Like the river sways,
For a father's blood,
For a mother's love.
You get used to it after a while, the negligence.
But some days, it just gets so hard and you can't help but feel the want and you cave into the temptation.
It's not fair.
Though not the promised land,
Nor any perfect plan,
Along our neutral path
There was a single lowered branch.
Sometimes you get chances, like maybe somebody comes along, and it's nice.
But you know that it's not going to last.
You fall.
What was flawless canvas-white,
What was kindness in our eyes
Is now a blemished masterpiece,
An astigmatism life.
Everyone starts out innocent, pure, immaculate.
But everyone gets torn into pieces, corrupt, tainted, and no eraser can change that.
We all hide our flaws.
But let's cut right to the chase,
To when the best of us was on display,
Before we tipped the scale from confidence to doubt.
I would hold you now, if only I knew how.
Fun, fun, fun, back in the past, at the start.
But things start to change; feelings bruised, hope only a dangling thread.
Scars don't always fade away.
Concentration breaks
Under frivolous weight.
If the right words exist,
May they find our lips.
They're not healthy for you, and you know.
But it helps you think back to those wonderful, prime memories and for a moment, all the bad stuff kind of goes away.
Pop.
Let's stay the course
And let the tension make us new.
I don't know if it's virtue,
I don't know if it's just dumb luck.
They finally notice you, and you're getting better, for sure.
But you do kind of miss it, the good memories.
You stay on track.
Would it matter if it was?
What if we welcomed change in
Or opened up just enough
To let it begin?
It's good, you're okay, you're better.
But then whispers come back and they tell you otherwise.
It really doesn't last.
"The doors will open wide for you."
It was said just like it was the truth,
If we walk right through...
Ten, fifty, sixty, ninety; you've lost count.
But does it really matter?
