Cacophony

.

Shh shh

[It's going to be okay]

Except

It's not.

So why bother lying about it?

.

Sometimes she just wants to

d

r

o

w

n

But in a real sea, this time

Not her metaphorical one of

Sorrows

That }engulfs{ her with every breath

Every b*l*i*n*k

Every flash of LIFE before her eyes

(In other words, all the time)

.

Therapists, teachers, p-a-r-e-n-t-s

They all say the same. Thing.

"You're so beautiful, Dominique"

"Depression is curable, Dominique"

" Let us in , Dominique "

[To –help- you]

NO.

You're wrong.

I am not depressed

And even if I was

It would not be curable

Because then you'd still make me Miss

^Pretty^

Proficient

*Perfect*

Dominique Weasley

And what

YOU DON'T GET

Is that I'm trying to rrrrrruuuuuuuunnnnn

From that.

.

The problem with drowning, though,

Is the w-a-t-e-r

It's not that it scares her

No, really.

It's that to go in the water

She has to –look at it—

And in doing that

She must see her

(awful)

(hideous)

(disgraceful)

s-e-l-f

.

Shut up, everybody.

Be *quiet*

Your voices aren't helping the

Cacophony

In my mind.

I'm okay—

Really. I'll pinky |promise|

( Of course, my &fingers& will be crossed

Behind my back

But

It's still a promise

And it's the thought that counts,

right? )

.

Maybe she is a bit depressed

And maybe she does need help

Because otherwise, she'd have to be

BLIND

To not see her beauty

( and right now, she w-i-s-h-e-s

she was )

But that doesn't change anything.

Fact is different from belief.

Dominique will take care of this

ON HER OWN

thank you ]very[ much

.

I am (im)perfectly (un)happy

So don't worry.

Go away.

Let me be a teenager

Instead of the – darling – of the presses

This is natural, I'm sure, so

Let me REBEL

BE FREE

ESCAPE everything

& everyone

\including me/

.

Don't worry,

She handled it.

She got over her problem with

Water.

...

No idea what specifically inspired this, except I really wanted to write a free verse, and this is what came out. For clarification, the verses switch between Dominique's first-person point of view and a narrative perspective.

As for the ending, interpret it as you wish.

Hope you enjoyed (and I'd love for you to tell me if you did in a review)! :)

Thanks for reading,
