Summary: In the beginning, when the world was hidden in mist, he was born
A/N: I've never written anything from a sword's perspective before, so hopefully this doesn't read too oddly…
On another note, here's to authors cough who just adore dumping ten or so new creations on their unsuspecting readers all at the same time so that they go cross-eyed trying to figure out what to read…
In the beginning, when the world was hidden in mist, we were born. I do not know if we created ourselves or were created by an unseen hand, but our existences were simply… there.
All the knowledge, everything we needed to know about ourselves and the ones who would eventually come to bond with us was already within us. We were all the same, yet each of us is different.
Our journey promised to be long, fraught with danger, but the urge to make it, to call out to our kindred, burned within our spirits.
For thousands of years, we waited.
I myself have seen the dawn of many ages of the world, and the passing of many lives. I've seen the birth of evil and destruction, and the dearth of hope and innocence, yet through it all, I held myself back. Somewhere out there, my wielder had yet to be born. I knew him intimately, long before he took his first breath, and I longed to hear him call my name, just as I longed to share my power with him.
I am mighty, but I am also benevolent.
I am not just a lifeless tool to be used carelessly. I am a warrior, the first and last of my ilk, but I will protect my wielder. He is still young, and has many centuries before he will master me, but he is filled with courage, and I take great pleasure in his power, even if his mind is a little… disordered.
Our paths will run together for many decades, of that I am certain.
He will come to learn me in time, for I am no mere tool.
I am Zangetsu.
