Hey guys! I wrote this story for English last year and I was pretty proud of it. It's sad, which is weird because I never write like that, but I thought this one turned out pretty good. I decided to make it A and A related. Completely OOC.
Dez couldn't believe what he was seeing. It was one of those situations where you feel like you're disconnected from your body, like you don't really exist. Everyone around him was crying. They had been for a week. He still wasn't. The tears just wouldn't come. He was so busy denying the reality of it all. He didn't want to believe that he was at Ally's funeral. Ally. His fraternal twin sister and best friend. A lot of people had asked him if he wanted to speak at the ceremony. He had said no to all of them. All he could do was replay the situation in his mind.
Their mom had asked him if of them would run to the store and pick up some mashed potato mix. "I'll go," Dez said, jumping up and grabbing his keys. "Don't be silly," Ally had said. "You're working on homework. I'll go." No one thought anything of it when she closed her laptop, grabbed her keys, and walked out the door shouting,"I'll be back soon!" But she wasn't.
Everytime he closed his eyes, all Dez could see was Ally's smile, and then her face would vanish from from his mind. He could still hear the officer's words echoing in his ears: "The guy just walked in and started shooting." Dez felt responsible. If he had just gone to the store instead of Ally, she would still be alive.
When Dez got back from the funeral, he went straight to his room and slammed the door. He flung himself onto his bed and let out a mournful sigh. Just as the tears were about to flow, he thought to words so clearly, he could practically hear them: time travel. He had been working on a formula for an AP Psycology project and this was the perfect motivation to actually create a working model.
It took him a month to complete. In that time, Dez had become a recluse: never talking, smiling, or do anything at all except working on the time travel formula. It was an elixir that causes you to fall asleep and awaken in a desired time. When you fall asleep there, you are pulled back to your time.
Dez took a sip of the fluid and almost instantly fell asleep. When he awoke, he was sitting at the kitchen table with a pen in his hand. He heard Ally saying,"I'll go." He jumped from his chair. "No! I can go. You stay here." He ran to her, swept her up in a huge hug, grabbed the keys, and ran out the door.
He walked into the small local grocery store and walked to the boxed food section. As he was walking to the checkout line, he saw a man pull out a gun. Dez breathed a sigh of relief. Ally was safe. Then he suddenly heard the bell above the door rang. Sweet Ally walked into the danger zone. "Dez! You forgot your..." The shooter suddenly turned and shot Ally in the head. Dez shouted, dropped everything, and ran to his dying sister. It was too late.
Dez woke up back in his room after a blurry series of events, similar to the ones just a week before. He immediately ran back to his desk and swallowed the potion to help his sister back in the past. He tried this time to stop the trip to the store altogether, but Ally insisted. And she died again. He went back again and again, trying everything he could to prevent the tragedy, but every attempt ended the same way: him holding his sister's cold body, each time more brokenhearted than the last.
When Dez was about to attempt going back for the tenth time, he simply couldn't take it any more. He realized that no matter how many times he went back and no matter what he did to try and stop it, Ally would always die. This was her fate. It couldn't be changed. This was something that no person could escape. Dez threw the time-traveling bottle to the ground. And as it shattered against wall, Dez finally cried.
Hope that was ok. Please review!
