Missing someone
Plot: Haru's and Makoto's parents are handling it better than the friends of their sons. Sequel to Say you love me one more time and Grey skies. Some sort of closure I suppose.
There's nothing more that can be said.
Too many tears are shed, in their opinions. Ran and Ren especially, as they kneel by the coffins. They ignore the wet mud on their clothes. It's raining, as it does on these occasions. It'd be a lie if they said they were fine.
He's gone, nothing was fine.
It's a parent's nightmare to live longer than their child.
Tachibana Makoto.
Nanase Haruka.
Their names are engraved in onyx upon the marked gravestones.
Makoto's mother's eyes are calm. There's a sorrow, of course- the anguish of a mother underneath that strong exterior. She holds Haruka's mom, patting her head, never shushing as the wretched sobs ring through the hill.
The fathers are to the side, dressed in an immaculate suit. Makoto's father doesn't say much, letting the older Nanase ramble, about meaningless things. It's their way of comforting- in the lack of their sons, they miss a speaker and a listener, respectively.
But around them, is an even bigger commotion.
"You bastard!" Rin growls, arm covering his eyes- but no one can miss the way the tears fall. The redhead is almost manic in his yelling, the curses causing some to turn away. But they know- the loss of his friends, his rival, his second mother- it's a lot to lose in barely a month.
Nagisa is eerily calm, despite Kou and Rei burying their faces into him, hugging him tight.
"Rin." He calls out. His voice reflects his disposition, and cuts through the angry rant. The redhead turns back at the call of his name, eyes blazing with confusion.
"It's ok." Magenta eyes waver close for a moment.
It's a lie.
But Rin ambles forward anyway, into the shorter's awaiting arms.
"It's ok." Nagisa soothes, over and over. He can feel the trembling forms piled onto him, and he cooes, pats, and comforts.
And soon, he's swarmed with more- Makoto's family, Haruka's family- they all move to him, and he's surrounded by those who need comfort, even though his heart is aching too.
But it's ok.
He'd seen the look on Haru's face, before Rei pulled him back, kicking and screaming, to the shore, where Rin had slapped him to break the fit.
Haru-chan was smiling.
And deep down, Nagisa knew the ugly truth- without Makoto, Haru was never going to last long. It was, despite their close friendships, the inevitable outcome. One could not function without the other. Where Makoto was, Haru was, and vice versa. They were two halves to a whole, integrated beyond what their classmates thought.
If one was lost…
Nagisa thinks that this way, it's kinder on everyone.
A flash of blue and green flutter past him, the dancing butterflies emerging from the tree above their graves. Their wings brush his face, and for a moment, he hears a warm laugh, accompanied by an annoyed grunt.
So he puts on his smile, through the myriad of grief, and looks to the clearing sky.
"Goodbye, Haru-chan, Mako-chan."
A/N: The end. Closure? I hope so. Thanks for reading gaisu :3
