Sand

A/N: I'm now obsessed with 'Treading Water' by Chris Brown. It's beautiful :) I'm probably going to write a fanfiction for either Kid and Liz or Tsubaki and Blackstar for that song. Anyway, this is for Kid x Liz week. I don't have a devianart, I just like using their themes.

Enjoy, R&R !

Outside Death City, about 200 miles south, there was the Pacific Ocean.

The beach was empty, except for Kid, sitting cross legged on the shoreline. The waves were silently curling inward, almost touching him, and then drawing backwards.

Kid's baggy tee shirt was slightly dampened from ocean spray, the smell of sea clinging to his skin. His hair misted with water drops, his fingers knuckle-deep in the sand, his eyes set on the sun sinking down over the horizon, his mind racing with thoughts.

The blue sky was beginning to fade into splashes of crimson and amber melting in shades of orange, the sun burning into the atmosphere. Shimmers of warm colors decorated the sea, creating a column of light along the water.

Kid sighed, listening to the calm splashes of the waves, their turquoise ripples curling into gentle spirals, before small splashes of foam remained.

Kid curled his knees to his chest, watching the ocean become more and more calm, the waves getting smaller and smaller, until eventually it would be a wobbly sheet of glass.

He rested his head on the top of his knees, his hands holding his feet against the sand. He wiggled his toes, trying to feel the wet sand against his skin. Burying them under the sticking grit, he closed his eyes, letting the sound of the waves invade his head, knowing that when he got back to Death City, he no longer could hear the beautiful notes of an ocean.

"Kid?"

Kid lifted his head from his knees and opened his eyes. He slowly turned his head over his shoulder, to see Liz, standing with a pair of denim shorts and a flowy pink blouse.

"Hello, Liz," said Kid, turning back to the water.

He could hear her shuffle and sit next to him, but completely ignored her presence.

"Beautiful, isn't?" she said, never turning to face him.

"Yes. It is," said Kid, his fingers pressed back into the sand.

The next few minutes were silent, just eyeing the scene in front of them until the sun disappeared below the horizon, leaving a glow of red.

As the sky began to darken, stars began to peak out, and the water began less visible.

Kid fished his hand toward Liz's and placed his fingers in between hers, gripping her hand tightly.

He could hear her giggle and felt her fingers tighten around hers.

He tilted his head to look at her, but the darkness in the sky made it hard to make out her face. His eyes quickly tried to adjust, but the head on his shoulder made it there first.

And there was that giggle.
