War. War never changes. That has been the trope of the past 200 Years since the Great War. What people forget is the second part to the saying. War never changes, and neither does human nature. In that essence, neither does politics. Over the past 200 years the powers that be have been toppling over themselves, jockeying for their position in this brave new world. Men of genius and men of sin, and men of one in the same all rising as kings, and toppling as beggars. This bloody chapter of human history is no exception.
The NCR undoubtedly won the Legionary War, and subsequently won its prize possession. The New Vegas Strip. The Courier, though always in the hearts and minds of the Republic's people, was last seen leaving to The Divide to meet his ultimate fate. The year is 2283. 2 years after the Second Battle Of Hoover Dam, a place for which many died, The NCR sits with more troubles than it can contain.
President Kimball sits in office in the last year of his term of office. It will conclude in 2284, and rumor has it, he will run for reelection. The NCR homeland lives in extraordinary prosperity not rivaled since 1952, while the new territory, the Mojave and the Strip, given no choice but annexation, struggle day to day. Mr. House lies dead in his tower. No one bothered to clean up the remains, but his name still has the capacity to create sparks.
Across the mighty Colorado the Legion, no longer under the name of Caesar, nor any name at all, lies in ruins. Leaderless, and split into factions, what progress Caesar made with his brutal civilization risks being lost, and the lands of Arizona are threatened with tribal affinity once again.
Amidst all this the New Vegas Strip stays open for business, under the control of Mayor Crocker. Citizens of the NCR travel to the strip with their pockets jingle janglin' and leave penniless, just as before. This is the state of the mojave as it is in 2283, and politics never changes.
