Explaining Time

"Hey, Ryan," Natalia said as she walked into the locker room. He nodded at her as he changed his shirt.

"Got any big plans tonight?" he asked, smiling. She grinned at him and opened up her own locker.

"Oh, not really," she said. She rummaged through her locker for a moment, then sighed and looked over at Ryan. "Hey, Ryan?"

"Hmm?"

"You and Eric are, um," Ryan looked up at her and she looked back down at her locker. "I'm just wondering. I'm not going to leak it to anyone; I'm not the mole anymore."

"I know," Ryan said. He shut his locker and leaned against it. "Well, we're trying. Why do you ask?"

"I saw," Natalia swallowed and shut her locker. "I saw Calleigh kiss him today."

"Huh," was all Ryan said. He turned sharply on his heel and left the room, pushing quickly past Calleigh as she entered the room.

"What's with him?" Calleigh asked. Natalia shrugged.

"Relationship trouble," she said, not sure how much Calleigh knew.

"Ah," she said. Natalia sighed as she slung her bag over her shoulder.

"What's up with you and Eric?" she asked. Calleigh looked up at her, a distinct blush coming to her cheeks.

"Nothing, yet," she said. "But, hey, you never know."

"Yeah," Natalia agreed as she walked towards the door. "You never know."

She found Eric and Ryan in the break room, glaring at each other. Neither of them said anything as she walked in. In fact, neither of them even looked at her.

"Are you just going to stare at each other all night, or is one of you actually going to say something?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest. Both of them opened their mouths, and then both of them closed their mouths. Natalia suppressed a laugh at how they looked and stepped forward to place a hand on each of their shoulders.

"Why don't you both sit down and start at the beginning?" she asked. The finally looked at her, the tension in their eyes receding slowly as they eased into chairs opposite one another.

"What happened?" Ryan asked.

"I told her I appreciated her," Eric replied. "And she kissed me on the cheek."

"That's it?" Ryan asked. Eric nodded, and then he switched his gaze to Natalia.

"Since when did she know?" he asked. It was Ryan's turn to explain.

Natalia chuckled to herself as she left, Ryan's explanation following her as she made her way out the door. She caught up with Calleigh in the parking lot, and called out to her.

"Have a good night," Calleigh said in response.

"You, too," Natalia said. Calleigh smiled.

"Have you seen Eric?" she asked, Natalia shook her head.

"They really have kept it a secret, haven't they?"

"Kept what a secret?"

Natalia laughed and shook her head as she climbed into her car.

"Nothing." She drove home marveling at the boys' ability to keep their relationship from become the gossip of the week at the lab.
