A/N: This is a short one shot the idea of which just popped into my head from god only knows what region of the ether, but it simply wouldn't go away until I wrote it so I figured it may help with the writers block I am having with with my other DA fic Like a Phoenix

This is sort of M/A and rated at M for mild language and descriptive violence.

Disclaimer: If they where mine I would have a whole hell of a lot of fun!!

Demise

He really didn't want to do this but his genes would accept no compromise, she had to die. He was competitive by pure nature and his preservation instincts where strong, he simply couldn't allow her to win this battle. Victory must be his.

His regret came from more than simple conscience, it came from the love and respect he had developed for this woman over the years, she had no inkling how he felt about her, he was just her resident pain in the ass.

But lately she had been acting differently, spending more time with him, becoming closer and more open, giving him hope that maybe just maybe one day he could mean to her even a fraction of what she meant to him.

But that was not to happen, not after the events of tonight, she had the same competitive nature as him and would kill him as soon as look at him if it would ensure her win, and under normal circumstances he would have reluctantly allowed her to, he had laid his life down many times over for her.

But this was different, she had flat out challenged him, in front of the whole of TC command centre and now his respect as SIC was dependant on his achieving the kill.

Everyone who should be working was instead surrounding them, unable to take their eyes from the bloodshed unleashed between their leaders many of them muttering about how they never thought all of their arguing would lead to THIS!

Looking at her he could see that her focus was absolute, attuned to every move he was making, anticipating and planning his demise.

But he couldn't let that happen. He drew on all of his Manticore training and stopped thinking about his feelings for her, about everyone else in the room, about anything and everything except victory, success.

And it was working, he was gaining the upper hand, tiring her, spilling her blood with his violent and brutal attacks, and then with one fell swoop delivered the final fatal blow, ending it all.

For a moment he could do nothing but blink in shock that he had actually done it, he had killed Max! But after only a few seconds the shock faded and he reacted in the only way he could in the face of her demise……. Jumped up, arms in the air and shouted " Aaaaahhh who's the champ huh, who is the champ?"

Smiling he could gain nothing but glee from the dark, stormy eyes currently staring blankly at him, stilled in shock as he had been that he had actually killed her, beat her.

Looking at the face that housed those beautiful eyes he simply said " Say it"

Blinking once or twice Max realised that she had no other choice and submitted to her fate

"Fine Alec fine you are the ultimate Mortal Combat champ and you rule all happy now?" she hissed, glaring at him.

"Oh hell yeah" he replied and continued to smirk at her even as she stood and made her way to her office mumbling " What kinda idiot gets so worked up about a stupid video game anyway… stupid ass" And slammed her door.

Giggling at her behaviour he had only one thing to say

"Sore Loser"
