A/N: another little story I just recently found on my computer. Originally part of a larger story, but I was never inspired enough to write any of it down. Maybe someday soon I'll have the drive to write a new story, but I haven't really been in any fandom recently. I've been reading some original fiction, which to me was a breath of fresh air after so much fanfiction. I'd really like to finish a story I've been working on for half a year, but time as well as interest is holding me back. Hopefully I'll find a way to get back into fandom; I miss it.
Necessity
Harry took shallow breaths of air, trying to appear calm when inside his heart was beating furiously in his chest. Draco was but a few inches away from him; they both could feel it. Draco's eyes glared into Harry's, still heated and upset, but the anger somewhat faded.
They just sat, staring at one another; neither had anything more to say. Each had come so far, they knew. They had learned so much about one another, but there was still so much more to uncover. Harry wanted to find out everything about Draco. His curiosity always overcame him, no matter what the occasion.
Draco's cry of "I don't need anyone!" still rang in Harry's head, but he chose to disregard it for now. Maybe it had just been the heat of the moment making him say things he didn't really mean. That's what Harry hoped. He broke the eye contact with the blonde before him for just a second, cleared his throat, and made one of the most important decisions he'd ever made.
Harry brought himself closer, and in an instant his lips met with Draco's in a surprised breath. He could feel Draco's uncertainty from the small "Hmph" he made to his tensing at the contact, but he did not pull away. The kiss was simple; mouths slightly open brushed one another for a second or two before retracting. It had gone as Harry had planned. He leaned in again to taste the breath on Draco's lips as he always imagined he would after their first contact. But something was not right.
Draco pulled back, licking his lips once, twice.
"I thought I told you, Potter," he paused, a finger at his mouth, touching in disbelief - he finished in a mere whisper - "I don't need you."
And before Harry's heart could start beating again he was gone, in a whirl of cloaks out the door into the cool hall of the castle, leaving Harry alone, hopes splintered.
