I watched mudkip walk ahead of me on the path. Orange clouds glittered in the sunset above the hidden land, as well as his back. We had done it. We saved the future from its terrible fate. But at what cost? Grovyle is gone now, and it's only a matter of time until I'm next...
I wonder if I should tell him; reveal information that will come to light no matter what, and I know that I'm just stalling.
"It sure is pretty out here, all things considered," mudkip calls back to me.
"Yeah..."
All of a sudden, my limbs begin to feel heavy, as though someone had just tied weights to my wrists and ankles. My walking progress slows. Soon, I am unable to continue forward. I look down at my palms. They are glowing with some sort of strange light. I guess my time has come.
"Hey charmamder, what's the hold up?" Mudkip whirls around and sees me. A look of confusion crawls across his face. He run up to me. "What's wrong?"
"Mudkip..." the words struggle to escape my lips. "There's some things I haven't told you." His innocent eyes glow with fear. "Since we saved the future, it will be a totally different place. Things won't happen the same way. All the pokemom from the future that we know, they won't exist anymore."
His eyes fill with tears. "So, celebi, and dusknoir, and grovyle, they won't be there anymore?"
"You're forgetting one more."
Suddenly he realizes. His eyes quickly open up with tears. "N-no! You can't leave me! I need you to keep going! I'm nothing without you."
"No mudkip. You can't let thus stop you. You need to stay strong. Keep your head up. Go back to town and tell everyone what happened here. Just because I don't exist doesn't mean my legacy, no, our legacy won't live on. You have to get through this, mudkip."
"I can't! You were the one that gave me strength this whole time! Charmander, you don't get it. I'm nothing without you. I'm the coward who found you on the beach. I'm back to square one."
I use the last of my strength to place a glowing hand on his shoulder. "The strength you found... I always existed within you. You just need to bring it out. I helped you before, but now you must prevail on your own. It was the greatest pleasure of my life being with you. I'll... never... forget... you..." I can't speak anymore. The pain is too great. I just watch, as my vision blurs, the form of mudkip, with tears streaming from his eyes. With my final thought, I pray that he can go on.
