New beginnings

*I do not own Danny Phantom*

This is my first fanfiction that I've ever had a go at writing, so you'll have to forgive me if it's not up to standard. I would appreciate some reviews though if you can spare the time. Thanks!

Chapter 1

An explosion shook the air around Amity Park, and when the smoke cleared, a lone figure could be seen falling from the sky. Sam and Tucker watched in dismay as their super-powered friend plummeted toward the fast-approaching earth, unable to do anything to slow his progress.

An earth-shattering boom sounded across the town, and by the time they reached him, Danny Phantom was in no fit state to breathe, let alone fight. Sam and Tucker combined their strength to lift his unconscious body out of the ditch his impact had made, and proceeded to carry him to safety.

By this time, it was a well-known fact that Danny Phantom and Danny Fenton were one and the same, but it still brought gasps of surprise when the ghost-boy's unconscious body morphed back into his human form, looking more that worse for wear. Tucker and Sam shared a sombre look, unsure if he would fully recover.

They carried his limp body all the way back to the Fenton Works, safely inside the ghost shield and placed him comfortably inside the lab. They knew it would be no easy process to get their old friend back. Jack and Maddie Fenton immediately set to work at finding the things that their son needed in order to regain his strength and survive.

Only when they had finished hooking him up to all kinds of medical equipment did they stop to think about who, or what could have left him like this. All eyes turned to the two teens who had witnessed the scene, but Tucker and Sam didn't have the answers they were looking for.

They explained how Danny's ghost sense had alerted him to a disturbance before they even realised, and one minute he was there, the next he wasn't. By the time they turned around, he was already engulfed in battle with a foe who moved so quickly that he couldn't be seen.

They all turned to face the figure lying on the bed, worry written all over their faces. What had happened out there? How long would it take him to recover? And who would protect Amity with their hero out of action? They pondered these questions in silence until Jazz bursted into the room, panic stricken.

"He's back! Dan is BACK!" She practically screamed. "The Red Huntress is trying to hold him off, but she's failing fast. Where's Danny?"

Sam, Tucker, Jack and Maddie took turns ranging from surprise, to panic, to confusion, to misery. Jazz gazed past them at the unconscious Danny on the stretcher and her face fell even more. "We're doomed." She whispered.

At that moment the Red Huntress herself crashed through their roof and landed with a crash on the lab floor, Dan in pursuit. He scoffed as he took in the scene that faced him.

"Mum, Dad, Jazz. How nice to see you all again – alive. And Sam and Tucker too! We've got the whole crew here. How is my weak, little past-self doing after our last encounter?" He floated over to the bed where Danny lay and grinned at the sight. "How quaint. You're little attempt to save him won't do much good. He won't live until morning."

Dan turned back to face the others, "And now, with that out of the way, you can all come with me." He extended his hands and let loose ghost rays that wrapped themselves around his former friends and family and lifted them into the air. He flew off with his captives trailing behind, but Sam, as stubborn as she is, couldn't leave without the last word.

"DON'T YOU DARE GIVE UP ON US DANNY! She cried out as Dan pulled them away.
