He felt the cold steel of the knife against his flesh, and for a moment, for just a moment, he ached for it to end. The never-ending struggle just to stay alive while they did the job Fate and their father had thrown them into for the rest of their lives, the never-ending argument over his future, the lack of hope, the lack of rest for he had not truly rested a single day since he had souled his soul to save that of the one he loved more than anything and everything else. For just a moment, he yearned for it all to be over with, but then a cry broke out. "DEAN!"
His eyes flew open, and he found himself staring into the most beautiful eyes he'd ever seen, the eyes he knew he was lucky to awaken to every morning he did, the eyes he knew he was blessed to have look at him in love. In that second, he knew again he'd continue doing everything he could to live if only for one reason: his beloved, little brother Sammy. But then wasn't Sammy worth everything?
He knew he was even as his fist plowed into the groin of the thing who held him and he ducked into a roll as Sam's shot brought the thing to its knees. Sam was worth everything to him, Dean knew, and he was blessed to have him and their love even if he was, at the same time, cursed to never have anything else that was truly his. As more of the monsters they were fighting swelled around them, Dean threw himself completely into the fight, knowing in his heart and soul that he would continue doing everything he could to live as long as he had that which he considered the best treasures any one could have: Sammy and the love they shared.
The End
