"I always knew you were a good man."
And then Elizabeth Swann had kissed Jack Sparrow. He thought that she'd really fallen for him, but she knew otherwise. She led them towards the Black Pearl's mast as she kissed him with more passion than anyone else. His lips were soft, unlike his calloused skin and lustful personality. She fought the urge to take her with him to the boat, to choose him over William Turner. Then she grabbed the iron cuffs and slid it onto his wrist, instantly breaking the kiss and pulling back.
"It's after you, not the ship. It's not us." She pointed out, having realized it. "But this is the only way, don't you see?" Words were hard to come by, after that kiss. She leaned in one last time, her lips brushing his as she lied to not only him, but herself as well. "I'm not sorry."
He pulled his head back, smirked, then frowned. His voice was low, yet not deep. However, it was still accusing. "Pirate."
The last thing Elizabeth saw of him before she turned around to board the longboat was his humorless smirk as he saw her struggling with her emotions.
She climbed down into the longboat, assisted by Will, who's voice was cold when he spoke. "Where's Jack?"
Had he seen her kiss him? Was he jealous? Did he understand why she'd done it?
She glanced at him, hesitating for a few moments. "He elected to stay behind to give us a chance." She lied, keeping her voice steady and in the same tone as her fiancée's. The crew, minus Will and herself, looked up towards the deck in shock and hope that their captain would come back and board the boat with them. He wouldn't, and Elizabeth was the only one who knew. Guilt and grief flew through her as she looked away from Will. They had to leave before she made herself go free Jack. "Go!" She ordered the men.
Marty dropped the rope that held them beside the Pearl and Ragetti grabbed an oar.
Elizabeth stared at nothing in particular, swallowed up by her guilt and grief. She only partially regretted what she did though. Killing one man was better than everyone else dying when she could've saved them. But it still felt wrong.
The way Jack's lips fit against hers. The way he let her guide him to the mast. The way he didn't realize it was all a trap until it was too late. The way he didn't try to get free or try to persuade her to release him.
But his lips.
So soft, so tender, so...gentle. Not fierce and controlling, as she'd expected from them. Maybe...maybe he'd really cared for her as she cared for Will.
But it was all too late now. The Black Pearl was tangled in tentacles, being dragged under the surface of the water. Then the captain was dead. Jack was dead.
Tears spilled from her moist eyes and she buried her face in her hands to hide it. She'd killed him.
It was for the best. You are alive because you had the courage to do it. A voice in her head told her, the one that had led her through it.
It was an act of piracy! She shouted at it. I tricked him for reasons of my own!
When you first joined Jack didn't you realize you'd become one?
Shut up! He's dead because I agreed with you!
For the best. 'Pirate'.
Don't say what he said!
The voice stopped.
A part of her knew that she didn't kiss him just to trick him. He had been right. She'd been curious about him. She'd ended up falling in love with him as she tricked and basically killed him. But he could never know, especially now. He was dead.
It would never be the same with Will, never again.
