Arrival
(ZNO)
He stood on his heels. He was behind rows of people. They were screaming names he had never heard before. 'Its crowded...its starting to suffocate me.'
Above his head was a sign, lifted by his arms. It read, "Haro." It was the word they both agreed on, when he came to pick her up.
Outside it was raining. The raindrops clattered against the ceiling, producing a rattling pattern. He hoped his car would survive the onslaught of water.
One by one, a traveler exited the terminal, only to be greeted with screams of incorhent words. He opted not to talk, let alone scream or yell. He just patiently placed his sign above his head and looked downwards, onto the floor.
As people exiting the gate were swamped by random people, he kept his place in the crowd and continued to place the sign above his head. She promised him that she would arrive at this date and time.
Soon after, there were hardly anyone left. He remained with about ten other occupants. He wasn't going to give up, like had the other times. He was planning to see this to the very end, which is why he is firmly placed to the floor. 'I don't care if my arms are dieing. It is all for her. I refuse to drop them.'
A guard nearby stood by one of the exits, watching the person with the sign of "Haro." The guard was not able to understand how the brown-haired man was able to lift the sign for two straight hours. He was also curious about the sign itself, wondering if the word had a special meaning between the man and his partner.
He caught the guard's stare of disbelief and curiousity, but he ignored both, mostly the latter.
As the third hour ticked by, the remaining ten left. He was the only one left, alone. Regardless, he wasn't going to give up and once again, composed a deadpanned face. He stood in place for another hour. Sweat trickled down his forehead, down to his chin.
After the fifth hour, he decided it wasn't worth it anymore. He placed his sign down for the first time and started to walk for the exit. During his walk to the exit, he saw many planes take off and land. Knowing that she will not appear from the agreed terminal, he forced himself to exit the airport.
It was still raining outside. He stood in the rain, taking in all the coldness and emptiness of the invading water into his clothing. 'Why isn't she here...She promised me...'
He felt warm streams streak down his face. 'I knew that she was lieing to me, to fool around with me. What a waste of energy. I shouldn't have followed her directions.'
He threw himself into his car and started up the engine. As he drove on the highway to return home, his cellphone rang. Reluctantly he picked up.
"Hello, who is speaking?" "Bro, where are you?!" "Oh hey sis, I'm just coming back home after my trip to the airport." "Why'd you accept her request anyway? You and I both know that it would be a waste of effort and time." "Maybe it was because I never got over her..."
She exited her gate after he left. She looked all around to find her sign. She realized that she late by six whole hours. Panicking, she rushed to the help center asking if they saw a man with the sign of "Haro." The attendent apologized, told her that she didn't see a man with a sign and wished her luck in finding him.
She was almost in tears, until she saw a guard stare at her. 'He knows.'
Quickly she ran to him and asked him of his whereabouts. She was able to tell from his eyes that he saw everything.
"Tell me everything please." "The man you are looking for left an hour ago feeling awfully depressed. I don't blame the fellow though, he was standing there for five complete hours lifting up a sign, never letting down the sign for an instant until he had to leave."
She broke down, feeling how awful her companion must feel about her. It was finally the time for her to visit Japan to enjoy herself in old memories. Ranging from school, work, family, and him. She was able to convince her fiancee that she needed some team in Japan to relieve some stress. She hated her grandfather's will for forcing her into these problems.
She politely thanked the guard, in which the guard told her to quickly find him and make it up to him and briskly walked out into the rain. She flipped her cellphone and called a taxi. She ended up standing exactly the same spot as he did when he was about to leave.
Once the taxi arrived, she told the driver her hotel address. As the taxi drove through the highway, she thought about Kira. The man who she desperately wants to be with. The exact same man she had called to wait for her at the airport. The exact same man who is currently heartbroken.
The guilt was too much for her. She told the driver a different address. The one she wanted to visit first after her relaxation at the hotel. She prayed he would forgive her.
He stumbled into the house of his sister and brother-in-law. His greeting wasn't cheery, but they knew that cheering him up wouldn't change a thing.
"Bro, get some sleep, we'll think of something to do tomorrow morning." "Thanks Cagalli, even though its only 10 PM." "Listen to her Kira, you look worse than a battered up dog!" "Nice attempt at humor Athrun. I'll be using your guest room."
With that, he left. The couple wondered what was going through his mind. Apparently, a lot.
Kira took a quick shower and landed on his bed. 'I'm still questioning if I should forgive her...we'll see.'
Yes, he will.
Wow, I tried to upload this grammar-wise/author's notes written but my internet crashed at me on that exact moment, lasting eight hours.
With that being said, I changed my flow of writing into a shorter, more straightforward type resembling Neon Flux's Sorry!
Lastly, all grammatical mistakes are mine. No beta, and horrible internet connection caused it.
