Jayfeather weaved his way through the winding trees, depending on his whiskers to help him through the forest. His sightless eyes glistened with terror.
He could feel the pounding paw steps behind him.
He could hear the seducing mew floating in his mind.
The predator was right behind him. And Jayfeather could do nothing but run.
Suddenly, fierce claws ripped into his skin. The seeping, warm blood trickled slowly down his fur. He could feel its searing pain. It's eerie warmth.
"How does it feel…" the voice cooed softly into his ear, "to not have it your way, for once? You're dying tonight, Jayfeather, and what can you do about it?"
That voice. Memories flashed through Jayfeather's mind. The nursery. Her soft, littermate scent. The heart-wrenching sorrow of her being crushed by the collapsing tunnels…
Hollyleaf.
"You can't kill me," Jayfeather growled through barred teeth, "you're already dead."
Hollyleaf snapped back her head and let out a hysteric laugh. Plunging her claws deeper into her brother's soft skin, she bent her head down, until she was looking straight into Jayfeather's blank, blue eyes.
"Look at me," Hollyleaf hissed. Jayfeather hesitated. She's mocking me! He thought, growing absolutely outraged.
"LOOK AT ME!" Hollyleaf screeched, causing her victim to yowl in horror. Then, Jayfeather's world began to melt into colors, then shapes, finally dimensions.
"Isn't the world…pleasant?" Hollyleaf mewed, half sneering. Jayfeather gasped in surprise as another searing pain jolted through him, then he fell into spiraling darkness.
"Hello, young one," a soft meow said, coming from behind him. Jayfeather craned his neck to make out the shape. An elderly, blue-gray she-cat, with gentle blue eyes gazed softly back at him;
"welcome to StarClan."
