Part four (even though part three isn't up yet!) of four fics for a 100 drabble challenge. 25 prompts for each house, with 76-100 focusing on House Gryffindor! So, lets begin!

76. Polite

xx

McGonagall had always thought Lavender Brown a polite, if eccentric, girl.

Granted, her shrieking laughter shared with Parvati Patil always did have a special way of rubbing Minerva the wrong way and she wasn't the brightest Gryffindor in McGonagall's care, but she was caring, maybe a little too much, now that she thought of Ron, and always rather contentious of the rules (she certainly never caught her out of bed after hours exchanging stories with Hagrid.)

So, in a way, McGonagall was a little startled when Alecto Carrow stormed into her office, Brown in tow, who looked almost to tears.

"You'll discipline her, I'm sure, McGonagall, lest my brother and I need give her a lesson in manners!" She'd threatened before storming off to return to her class.

Lavender stood stock-still in front of her desk, shaking and sniffing. McGonagall removed her glasses, rubbing her eyes. "Take a seat, Ms. Brown." She said, waving her hand.

Lavender did so. "I'm so sorry Professor I just-"

"Why don't you explain what happened first?" McGonagall said, replacing her glasses and leaning back in her seat, appraising the girl.

"Well…Professor Carrow was explaining how Muggles are brutish, vicious, and no better than animals." Lavender made a face, twisting her mouth as if the words were painful to say.

McGonagall sighed. "Yes, and then?"

"Well…" Lavender's eyes darted to the ground, as if it would be impossible to look her in the face as she explained. "I asked her…um…well, I asked, if that was the case, if she was sure she didn't have Muggle blood." She bit on her lip, expecting a lecture.

And McGonagall couldn't help herself. She let out a chuckle. Lavender's eyes shot up, looking at her Head of House in surprise. And then she smiled at Lavender, a little grin as if to say, 'Well done'.

"Well Ms. Brown, I'm sure you'll be thoughtful to watch your tongue next time," was all she said, looking down at her paper work.

Lavender opened her mouth and then quickly closed it. "I, uh…yes, professor. Thank you, professor." She then quickly stood up, and exited the room.

McGonagall sat, smiling to herself. Perhaps Lavender wasn't as polite as she thought.
