This idea just came to me one day. No one has really gone into a lot of detail about the Doctor's childhood and life on Gallifrey, so I thought that I'd have a go. Just to warn you, this story might not exactly follow canon. I might deviate of a bit, so this could be considered an AU.
As always, please read and review.
Hope you enjoy!
He carefully opened the polished mahogany door, and stepped in silently to ensure that he didn't wake the resting child. Ulysses, a powerfully built man with white hair and beard, stood over his human wife, Penelope, who was cradling a tiny body. Their older son, Irving was held in his father's arms, eyes glowing with curiosity and wonder. Ulysses looked up and smiled a soft smile that still lit up his face. The newborn was being rocked gently and was sleeping soundly. Quences had allowed the child to join the House of Lungbarrow as his father and brother were members.
It had already been decided that the child would attend the Academy, and his given name is Theta Sigma as his Gallifreyan birth name is far too long.
"You two must be very proud," he said softly and the pair beamed with pride. Young Irving just looked up at Quences in confusion. "Don't worry about it," he said while ruffling the child's hair causing him to giggle. He turned his attentions back to Ulysses and Penelope. "Would you like me to announce his birth to the rest of the House?"
"Yes, thank you Quences," Ulysses smiled in gratitude. Penelope smiled as well and mouthed a thank you. Quences nodded, and left as silently as he'd come. When he had closed the door, he smiled slightly and headed off into the direction of the Main Hall.
Everyone was gathered in the Hall waiting anxiously for any news. A birth on Gallifrey was a very rare and cherished occasion. The Pythia's curse was beginning to fade, as more and more Gallifreyans were able to give birth. However, there was still a high risk of miscarriage. The room was silent, apart from occasional whispers. Then the great oak door was pushed open and Quences strode into the room. All the cousins looked at him expectantly.
"Young Theta Sigma has been born. He survived and is a strong and healthy baby." Everyone exhaled deeply in relief and the room lit up as everyone beamed.
Huge celebrations were held that evening, celebrating both Otherstide Eve and the baby's birth.
Ulysses didn't want to leave the room, but Irving needed to get some sleep. He gently kissed his wife on the lips and rose from his seated position on the bed, carrying Irving back to his room.
Penelope smiled as he left the room, and looked down at her young son. He had soft brown hair and big hazel eyes full of wonder, curiosity and creativity. He was also very small, which worried them both at first but they decided to dismiss that for now.
She heard Ulysses re-enter and she placed young Theta into his cot right beside their bed. He stirred a bit but soon relaxed and fell back into a deep sleep. She and her husband shared a smile and settled down to rest.
